Hopefully there will be a NGD incoming and I can share the knowledge- always good to be the guinea pig.

Not hands-on familiar, but he is a respected luthier making quality guitars by all accounts. They certainly look very good.

Why specifically Japanese vintage guitars?

Do you have a preference for that sound over something typically Spanish?

Just curious

There are many gorgeous and affordable classical guitars coming out of Japan, both vintage and some more recent.
I am a Japanophile.
I am not a classical guitarist just a hack.. Many if not most of Japan classicals are based on Spanish Ramirez and others designs, as luthiers went to Spain to train, before setting up shop at home. Japan has a tradition of working with and preserving the art of fine woodwork and wood appropriation of all sorts..

I own a 40 year old Asturias made guitar that was designed under the supervision
Of Richard Brune as part of his import line.

Very easy to play

Nice tone

I have also played (not owned) a 1969 Kohno
That was very good as well

I think some of the earlier Japanese guitars were
Much better than current/recent production

Good luck in your search!

Steve

About This Listing
This guitar was made in 1964 by Sakazo Nakade, a luthier described by many Japanese experts as “The Father of Modern Japanese Luthier”.

Guitar has scratches, dents, nails, and wrinkle of finish (by changing humidity) on whole of its body. Note: It has a crack like a hair about 1.5 inches (2 last photos), that I took pictures with a very close distance in order to help you understand its condition. It rests on the fretboard's two bearing bars, so doesn't need to repaired. This guitar is still in very good condition for 59 year old guitar with no any repairs, and very rare to meet today.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Top: Solid Spruce with a reinforced circle underneath at the sound hole.

Back/Sides: Solid Cypress (Black dots on both sides are wood grain, looking from the inside)

Neck: Mahogany and quite straight. This is very important for vintage guitars

Frets are in good condition. I made a level frets, and set up a low action, so easy to play.

Fingerboard: Ebony ( I cleaned and used fretboard oil)

Tuner: in original condition, still very nice, and work well.

With at the nut: 51 mm

Scale: 650 mm

Action is set to 2.8 mm under E6 and 2.5 mm under E1 with a lot of room on the saddle to adjust a lower action.

This guitar will be shipped in the Gator hard case ($119) in brand new condition.

SOLD!

Hi all-
I just wanted to report back on my findings....
I ordered the classical guitar on reverb from a great seller named Toai who operates Vintage Japanese Guitars in Portland Or.. Everything went smoothly and the guitar is in great shape. It is not perfect- it smells of mold. And the soundboard is so lightly built... but that is what makes it exciting to hear. Otherwise the guitar is in excellent shape minus some finish shrinkage to be expected. It sounds amazing after my plywood Yamaha classical. If your curious please look it up on Reverb. Nakade B1 flamenco.
Thanks!
Nik
