MLB: Long & Fascinating Article: Slider Taking Over Fastball
This article really fascinated me. It's quite long and detailed, and if you like a lot of data you'll be one happy camper.
I don't follow MLB much until the playoffs, but those who do probably already know this. The main premise of the article is that the slider has slowly and surely begun to replace the fastball as the the go-to pitch when looking for a strikeout. The numbers are pretty dramatic. Among the specific pitchers discussed, the article goes in depth about Clayton Kershaw who, as his arm has aged and his velocity has dropped, has been able to extend his already-fabulous career with the Dodgers by shifting from the fastball to the slider. Statistically, the percentages show that a good slider is far more difficult to hit than a good fastball. Hope you enjoy it. I was quite surprised and fascinated. https://sports.yahoo.com/are-sliders...013521901.html Last edited by Charmed Life Picks; 06-04-2023 at 08:56 PM. |
