Default Just said goodbye to an old friend...

Just said goodbye to a guitar I've owned for more than 35 years. A 1980ish Mountain M-37, a Japanese knockoff of a D28. Been in a closet unplayed for at least 34 of those 35 years. It was in such good shape you'd swear that it was sealed in a time capsule all that time. When I took it to my luthier to be checked out he said the neck is still in great shape and all the guitar needed was a little bit of action adjustment.

When I was getting ready to retire a couple years ago I decided I was finally going to check the "learn to play guitar" box on my bucket list. Since then I've bought five guitars and sold two as my herd has evolved. The old Mountain stayed in the closet unplayed, which more and more seemed like a crime.

So today I contacted the teacher I'd taken some lessons from and told him I'd like to give the guitar to some deserving young student who was guitarless. He jumped at the opportunity and I just stopped off at his studio to give him the guitar. I'm glad it will launch someone new on the guitar journey.

Meanwhile, I can't exactly complain about the herd I'm left with...

A really nice thing to do, Roy. Nothing like the gift of music.

I've kept each and every guitar since my 1st. Never felt like separating from them...lol!
But now as time goes by i'm starting to pine for a simpler life. I know that I've not been spending time with my electric 6 or acoustic 12. Still it is going to be hard to want to sell them.

It is a beautiful Washburn os 12 string (circa mid/late 90's)(not made in china) AA or AAA solid sitka spruce top, solid maple or hog neck, back & sides

Absolutely stunning 12 string. Super low action and plays awesome. If I choose to separate from her I want her to go to a really good home. Can hope at least!
This Washburn ran me close to $700 when I got it. I've had so many compliments on it. Lol! I can feel the separation anxiety now....
...But if I just wait may be I'll be seduced by her once more. (hangs head)

Cool story. I gave my first electric (a cort) to one of my friends who had been showing interest in learning to play. Feels good, right?

When we find something, it is natural to want to share the joy. I really appreciate the way you have made a gesture that has already increased someone's joy (your teacher), and will increase a student's joy soon enough. May that joy return to you a thousand times.

That's a really nice gesture. And you have a great trio yourself.

Way to go. You will make someone's day with that beautiful gift. And it looks like a real nice guitar, you should feel extra warm and cozy when you go to sleep tonight!

Good stuff, Roy!

I gave away my first electric, a Hondo Les Paul copy, to the local Guitars4Vets program. Same idea, no better or worse, and I can understand your joy in sharing.

Thanks for telling your story. I hope it inspires others to do something similar, if the opportunity arises.
