Default Worldclass fingerstyle from Italy - "A Note of Loneliness"

Hi friends,

found this song - performed by the italian fingerstyle pro Andrea Valeri:

Andrea Valeri -"A Note of Loneliness"

I never hear this song before and for me it's a worldclass tune & arrangement.

What do you think about it?

Greetz

J.

I fell asleep halfway through .....but luckily, before falling asleep, I was able to extract the direct link to the Youtube video of A Note of Loneliness .

Best cure for insomnia I have come across in a long time ...

Decent melody but not what I'd called fingerstyle. Hybrid, yep. Fingerstyle, no. And worldclass is a bit of an ambitious perspective. Give the kid another few years, like 10, to learn fingerstyle and completely dispense with the plectrum.

Why? What's wrong with hybrid picking? You use your pinky to pluck strings to make up for the loss of the first finger and the pick is essentially a thumbpick. I don't see your POV sadly.

Good song, played well, but this isn't exactly fingerstyle nor world class.

Also, he needs a new pick, the constant scratching from that one is really distracting.

I like the main theme of the song. The other parts kinda lost me. Tempo should be a tad faster. Other than that it's quite nice.

"Give the kid another few years, like 10, to learn fingerstyle and completely dispense with the plectrum."

Tommy Emanuel plays his hit "Mombasa" with a plectrum between his thumb and index finger, and uses the other fingers to finger pick.
Exactly as the Italian guy. So I do not see anything really wrong with his technique. Is he a world class performer ? In my humble view, not yet.

The music sounds good, the player plays very, very good. I'd say he's up there close with the other recording professionals on this forum, for that matter.

Fingerstyle music simply isn't the most popular music on the planet and will never, by itself, make these players household names and wealthy. Hopefully they will be able to make a reasonable living though.

Love his Maton sound....has that trebly quality from the maple and the Tommy E. buzz on the strings. I want one!

I agree with this idea. One of the things that makes Tommy E's music so powerful is the great drive or momentum behind his playing. Many of his songs can be learned--however getting them to sound like he does is like reaching for the moon because his technique and sense of dynamic timing are so perfect. Playing this song faster probably would help make it more interesting to listen to.
