afrormosia
"This wood species is in CITES Appendix II, and is on the IUCN Red List. It is listed as endangered due to a population reduction of over 50% in the past three generations, caused by a decline in its natural range, and exploitation."

my father's friend said there were six mahogany boards for sale, I looked at the boards and they looked like mahogany. But when I passed them with a planer, I realized that it didn't look like mahogany.
I called him last night, and he says he worked from 1987 to 1992 in Africa and is 100% sure he bought those boards along with the ebony boards in the Côte d’Ivoire but he doesn’t remember what year it was exactly.

what I noticed is that with a few passes with a scraper, this wood looks like stained.

Hi! Everywhere there are a lot of species! According to Wikipedia, regarding Taï national park in Ivory coast: “ This mature tropical forest includes some 1,300 species of higher plants and has been designated as a World Heritage Site and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.[6]”
Maybe it is a not very often used wood in luthiery

We will hear how this tree sounds in a month or two combined with European spruce. I hope it sounds like it looks.

If the wood came from Africa, it cannot be genuine mahogany. Could it be Khaya or sapele?

Are you sure it's not an exotic wood?
How hard is it?

Very solid wood. my scraper comes out very easily, so I have to sharpen it more often, compared to a walnut. it seems to me that it may be a little easier to work with than rosewood. But have some exotic smell and very nusty yellow dust.

It looks more like Khaya to me than Sapele due to the longer open grain pores visible on the face of the flatsawn boards. What does it smell like when scraping it?
