Default Rainsong N1 vs N2 both having truss rods

Curious what would be your neck choice on a Rainsong if both necks had a truss rod.

Steve,

I have not tried the N1 neck so I cannot contribute to the survey. That being said, I do believe Rainsong bolts on their necks? If so, they "might" be able to customize an order to either neck. And I am sure they can put a truss rod in the N1 neck.

"And I am sure they can put a truss rod in the N1 neck."

I sure didn't think this was true. I thought the N2 was the only RS neck that had a truss rod.

I have an OM-1000 with the N1 neck (no truss rod). I've used differing weights of strings with no noticeable movement. It seems rock solid. For an average player like myself - no truss rod is needed in a Rainsong. Maybe for professionals, but not me. I need the slim profile of the N1. I believe Rainsong will offer the N1 in the Shorty, etc. Hope they don't wait too long...

I guess I should have added that to vote you should have tried both.

Lisa, you can order any long scale 14-fret model with either an N1 or the N2 neck but an N1 neck with truss rod is not an option. As for the new 12-fret short scale neck that is on your LTD Shorty, it's only available in the N2 shape.

Steve, I was actually going to start a discussion on this so I'm glad to see this thread. Me, I prefer the N1 shape on the Jumbo but prefer the N2 shape on all other models. I guess my body positioning is different enough playing the Jumbo which can dictate neck preference. This would be my preference regardless of a truss rod.

Default N1 vs. N2

Hi Folks, Just my $.02 , Ted suggested I try the N2 even though I was quite covinced I needed the N1 , I have owned my Rainsong OM1000N2 now for 2 months and have not looked back , love the guitar , love the neck size and shape . thanks Ted

I think it is playing style, and of course hand size. I am one that grabs the low E string with my thumb on F and D chords. It is just a slight strain for me to do that on a N2. That just doesn't go away. I am sure I would be happier with a J1000 with a N1 but I got this one in trade. Bottom line its a awesome guitar. I don't want this to be misinterpreted that I am anti Rainsong. Quite the contrary love their offering.

You know, I have small hands and this is the first guitar that I have been able to grab the low E string with my thumb! Also, I think with practice, one really can adapt. I go from my classical guitar with a 49.5mm nut width to my Shorty with no effort now.

You never know, at some point, Rainsong may offer the N1 with a truss rod.

That is interesting Lisa it probably is I just like a thin profile. I just acquired a Deering B6 banjo and just love its thin neck profile.

Steve,

Keep asking! Rainsong is very responsive! They built the Shorty based on customer demand. I know that Emerald will put a truss rod in their guitars for a fee. Perhaps Rainsong would do this...

Closest match for the N2 is said to be a 1959 Les Paul. Jimmie Page's main guitar but he shaved the neck? Just saying.
