Interesting... they should do a christian version of the surreal life! round up a dozen CCM has beens and make them live together! although, on second thought, it probably wouldnt be very interesting since they'd probably all be nice to each other.

I own an interesting video set done in 1998 titled ''First Love'' produced by the husbands of Nelly Griesen (2nd Chapter of Acts) and Jamie Owens Collins. They gathered: Randy Stonehill 2nd Chapter of Acts Randy Matthews Barry McGuire Honeytree (Nancy Henningbaum) Jamie Owens Collins Tom Coomes Bob Wall Chuck Girard Darrell Mansfield Paul Clark André Crouch John Fischer Terry Clark for three days at a retreat in California and recorded video and audio of them telling stories about the early Christian Contemporary music era. The then included interviews on the set with: Chuck Smith Pat Boone Ralph Carmichael Jack Hayford and a couple other influencers of the early Contemporary Christian music scene. It's about 3 hours total, and very well done. More than 30 live performances, and interviews. I made my Worship Teams watch it in about 2001, and the response/reaction was very different. All we old timers sat around mopping our eyes, and the younger ones said ''...this is interesting. Who are these people again?'' I explained that this was a collection of probably 90% of the people who during the ''Jesus Movement'' turned the direction of music in the church around in under 25 years after hundreds of years of momentum in a different direction. These are the musicians who brought rather formal church music back to the common man...and it often wasn't fun. EDIT... Found it!! First Love on DVD - click

You know the Bill Gaither Homecoming videos that are all the rage? There is also a country old-timer video series that are very similar. Well, let me tell you a story: I went to a men's retreat last year , and the guy that is behind all the country videos was there. He is a radio DJ from way back and is very familiar with CCM from way back. He told me he wanted to do a similar video series with some of the older CCM artists. Problem was, no one (the artists, that is) wanted to talk about all the problems and such that they had all had through the years, so the project went kaput for lack of being able to get anyone onboard - few wanted to "get real"! I found this very interesting, especially having been at the outer edge (way out there!) of CCM for many years.

Can't speak for your former DJ acquaintance...he obviously was unaware of the ''First Love'' project (where there was talk of problems and the good things as well). |

I'm not sure what this says about me but her song "Clean before my Lord" is at the top of my Ipod playcounts (80).

There are a few videos of her playing and singing on YouTube. I remember Rattle Me, Shake Me is there, don't remember if Clean Before My Lord is. My wife and I sang together a lot 30 years ago, and that is one we did a lot. |
