[QUOTE=JoeCharter;4576567]After Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Circle Pines is the place in the US that I've visited most often...

That is really funny. I am pretty sure you are one of the few, if not the only person that can make that statement. It takes a good 3 minutes to see all of Circle Pines.

Hi Mau,

I, too, am looking forward to seeing the final photos of this lovely guitar. It's going to be another stunner, I believe!

I wish I could answer your question -- but I've never played an Applegate and words such as "flatpick" and "strum" only tell part of the story. Neil Young, Tony Rice and Al DiMeola are all "strummers" (to some extent) but yet they all play very differently and have different preferences as well.

Using a pick doesn't mean that you necessarily need to hammer your guitar like Neil, you know? If you want to play like the young and angry Neil, better stick with your Martin D.

Elegant flatpickers like Tony Rice have a much more moderate attack -- and same goes for Russ Barenberg on his Olson:

Otherwise if you do a search on YouTube for "Applegate SJ" you'll find plenty of demos with strumming involved.

I've been to Los Angeles 10-15 times (can't remember exactly) as most of my family lives there. The stereotype about Asians being compulsive gamblers doesn't apply to me -- but it does to the rest of my family so that explains the multiple trips to Vegas...

Thanks, Glenn.

I love how the inlays look against the light body. Short of a full vine inlay, these are probably my favourite fretboard markers.

Thanks for your answer. I do play songs where I mix it up between chords and picking with a pick such as Norwegian wood. I believe that type of song lends itself toward the picking and strumming I intend to become proficient with, and would sound nice on the Olson SJ. I am hoping the applegate will be an offshoot in that the student probably uses similar method in his guitar building! ?

Here's a last photo update before the guitar gets strung up.

I am extremely pleased with the way that the top and back have turned out under finish.

I thought gentlemen preferred Blondes....

This build has really come together nicely - can't wait to hear what she sounds like.

Absolutely has enough headroom. Played only one but it was a clear, loud beauty. Felt very much like an Olson in heft and tone. Go listen to some over at Dream Guitars.com and see what you think. Also, there are these reviews:

I think this may be an understatement! The back is INSANE! I always appreciate the detailed build threads, commentary, and review on your guitars. Thanks for sharing and congrats on another awesome incoming guitar!
