About a month ago I put on a set of Ernie Ball Earthwood extra light on my Indiana Scout.

So far I can't complain.

D'Addario EPN22 Pure Nickel, Jazz Medium, 13-56
Pure nickel wounding, similar to Monel.

D-18GE sounds best with GHS PB Mediums.

Custom Shop HD-28 sounds best with Martin PB Mediums.

EJ17s and Lifespans are too bright for me, and I like sets with a 26 for the G.

Both guitars have Adirondack tops.

Interesting. I have never tried nickel wound strings on an acoustic flat top guitar. I must give them a try!

It can be very interesting. Some guitars really sound good with nickel alloy strings, others sound dreadful. In my experience nickel alloy strings really are on a guitar by guitar basis - in other words, it's fairly unpredictable and so you have to test them with an open mind rather than assume they will or won't work on any given instrument.

I have three guitars I typically keep strung with nickel or nickel alloy strings, either John Pearse Pure Nickels or the D'Addario Nickel-Bronze. All of the rest of the instruments I own sound better with either 80/20 or phosphor bronze, both by John Pearse.

EJ17s on my BRW D28 clone are my ‘go to’ strings. Buy them in 10 packs and get a whisker of a volume discount.

Lately, I've been enamored with GHS Vintage Bronze in the True Medium gauge. Little brighter than Martin Monels but not to the point of edgy.

FYI, their Pure Nickel mandolin strings are just tone monsters on Loar-like A and F styles. They have this smooth, silky tone that reminds you of the best mandolin you ever heard.
