Default Are there others here who don't care for burst finishes?

I never warmed up to burst finished guitars, having only owned natural finish acoustic guitars and thinking I can't be the only one here who feels this way.

I typically prefer natural finishes but my Western sunburst on my Taylor 714 is pretty nice. Burst finishes for whatever reason seem to look better on electrics than acoustics to me.

As with most things, it depends.

Some yes.

Some no.

I wouldn't order it specifically. I wouldn't kick an amazing guitar out of bed for it. It doesn't bother me if other people have it on their guitar.

They vary. Some are nicely blended, not too dark, and look great. Others not so much.

I warmed up to bursts for an incredibly simple reason. A guitar that really wanted to come home with me had a burst.

Might accidentally happen to you too.

I know there was another thread that went around not too long ago and you are definitely not alone. There were a number of people who expressed that they did not care for bursts. I like a few but I like the subtle shadow bursts or honey/amber bursts best on acoustics. Love the cherry on the electrics.
One thing about a lot of bursts is that they seem to not be very well applied so they make the guitar look cheap - IMHO.

Best,
Jayne

I prefer blondes (blonde, natural top) with natural back and sides too. I am not a fan of all black guitars myself. Why cover up beautiful wood grain with opaque black paint? Translucent black finishes are cool.

Although I have a burst finished guitar, I am not a fan of them.

I like a "Burst" finish on some guitars while not so much on other guitars. It is all a matter of personal taste for me. Now for my 814ce Tobacco Burst, I truly love it while I've not cared for it on other instruments. I look at it as a plus when added to the instrument's tone.

Off subject regarding the "Burst", I kind of feel the same about certain automobile colors, shapes and sizes. One exterior color looks really well on this particular vehicle, but not as good on others. This takes me back to my initial statement of my "personal taste".

I have bursts on three guitars, a Strat, an ES-339, and a luthier built archtop. Like them all. And I like bursts on flattops as long as the burst is well done (entirely subjective, I know). My Gibson OJ had a great burst.

I'm not crazy about bursts. My first acoustic guitar, an Ovation, is a burst. My current acoustic, a Martin GPCPA4, is plain.

I do not have any idea if this is true, but to me, a burst must have started as a way to hide shoddy wood joints. Maybe that's not true at all.

That said, the day I tried out my Martin I also played a Gibson J45 Walnut AG, with a burst. Up close, it was the prettiest guitar I've ever seen.

Here. Although my first "good" guitar had a burst. It was a Gibson SJ that was $150 new. Sold it later but is one I wish I still had.

Burst on electrics? Yes yes yes
Burst on acoustics? No no no

Not sure why I don't like 'em on acoustics, probably just has to do with what you see growing up.

I love quality wood grain and when a burst enhances that and is applied well, then I appreciate it. Although I've had several in the past, I only have one currently and it's a shadow burst on a mahogany top - I don't think I've seen a better burst around - it's just stunning. Good thing it has a good tone, I'd hate to be seen as superficial
