Martin is revamping their line of strings. I don’t see the “Lifespan” nomenclature as much as “Authentic” being used. I’m wondering if it’s just a name change or if there something truly different from a manufacturing standpoint.

They have changed the strings. There have been a few threads on here about people trying the Authenic and saying they are a bit warmer then the Life Span. At least that seemed to be the the sentiment. Some like them better other not as much, just like all other strings it's personal preference.

Bringing this back as I just traded my 000-28EC for the CEO 7 and I am quite smitten. I was wondering about trying a set of Martin Retro Lawrence Jubers. They are a medium light - 13 17 24 32 42 56. Will the guitar be able to handle the heavier strings? Thanks

It should be able to handle that set of strings just fine.

I love Retros and Titanium both on my CEO-7. I’ve played the LJ set and the guitar can certainly handle them, but I didn’t personally like them as much as a plain set of Lights (12-54). I believe I’ve read, but could be wrong, that the LJ set was developed for his preferred alternate tuning. In standard tuning, I didn’t find them all that well balanced - those lighter middle strings sounded kind of jangly to me. I’d stick with regular lights or medium, but it never hurts to try the LJs and see if they work for you.

BTW, I have both a 000-28EC and a CEO-7. I’d be hard pressed to sell either of them, but if I ever had to pare back to one acoustic, I’d keep the CEO-7…

I've got a set of Elixir Custom Lights that have no real home, and have wondered if they might sound good on the CEO-7. Anyone happened to try those on it?

I would check with Martin or their spec sheet. They may be heavier than recommended.

Does it smell like over-ripe bananas?

They weren't for me. I went back to DR Rare Lights which I like on mahogany guitars.

No over ripe banana smell to speak of.
