Default Bursts

I love Gibson or Fender bursts. Most others usually look a bit strange to me.

I used to only like the natural blonde tops but not too light in color. Almost like a wheat natural top. In fact I held out for a blonde top AJ when I bought my first one back in 03. But I've warmed up to bursts in recent years. My absolute favorite are those cherry burst J-45s from the 60s. I'm a sucker for that cherry burst for sure! I just added another AJ to my arsenal which is tobacco sunburst. If she sounds great, the burst won't matter! I'm still waiting on its arrival.

It really depends on the burst.
I generally like them on 18 style guitars. To my eye, burst looks better w/ dark binding on acoustic guitars, e.g. D & OM18s; J45s.

I really like the burst Guild does on their hog tops (I love how my M-20 looks). And Gibson is just Gibson... and I cannot wait for my incoming J-45.

I prefer burst or dark tops in redwood or cedar. out of 7 only one is a natural spruce top. it may be for sale soon!

I'm sure it has already been said, but I'm more concerned with sound than finish and I wouldn't pick a plain top over a sunburst, or vice versa, for appearance.

I don’t care for sunburst, i adore the look of natural beauty of the top bared in all its full glory with the exception of mahogany and koa tops where i thought burst seem to look magical

Not all bursts are created equal. Some I like, some I don't.

Having owned a ‘66 J-45 Cherryburst I agree completely! Just a gorgeous finish and super guitar as well!

I favor sunburst guitars cosmetically and no one does it better than Collings IMO.

But in choosing a guitar the finish is a non-factor for me.

Burst finishes just don't do it for me. There are others who love them.

But if everyone like the same things the world would be pretty boring.

I do not like burst finishes. The only tolerable ones to me may be the hand rubbed ones done by kim walker on his guitars.

Here is a pre-1929 Gibson Nick Lucas. I really like the early hand applied sunbursts, each a little different

Sure wish I could figure out how to post a picture on this site - I have no problem anywhere else
