C-G9-G at the end of Take it Easy
OK, just a quick question. At the end of Eagles "Take it Easy", while singing "gotta take it eeee-eeee-saaay", there is a G9 in the middle. I looked this chord up and I can't figure out how this should be played. It sounds ok with just G-C, but I'd like to put a G9 in there if possible, or at least something similar.
Anyone have a way that you play this part of the song that you'd like to share? Thanks and Merry Christmas everyone! |

You could try: x x 3 2 3 3 (or with an open second string) x x 3 2 0 3
or grab the low G with your thumb: 3 x 3 2 3 3 or 3 x 3 2 0 3 (I suppose you don't need the thumb for the second option) Basically, you want an "A" in there somewhere... |

How did you determine there's a G9 in there?

It's actually a G9sus4, and as far as I can tell is all in the vocal harmonies.
If you have a bass player, he can play the G while you play a Dm7 somewhere - that will give you all the right notes. Make sure it's a shape you can easily move to from G and on into C. If you want to put the G bass on guitar, I'd play it like this: -1-- -1-- -2-- -0-- -x-- -3-- or this: -x-- -1-- -2-- -3-- -x-- -3-- That second one is F/G, but is near enough. Mute the missing strings with the side of the finger on the string below. Both these shapes go easily to an ordinary C shape. |
