Let's look at the neck making process! Got some awesome pics from the boss to share.
First, he showed me how necks are being made from 1 solid laminate block. Here's a laminated wood block with the truss rod slot already routed: 2 Necks are made from 1 block; Here's how 1 neck will be carved from the block: Here's how 2 necks will be positioned if it was still part of the block: Here's a shot of the 2 necks from the block.. one of which will be my guitar neck! |

This is going to be a special guitar! You’re gonna love the resonance of the Avalon guitars! Being a Lowden owner myself you’ll never go back to a American box.

What a beautiful guitar in the making! Love the EIR wood with the "swirls." I've not seen that before.

That looks really lovely! I'm a big redwood fan. Looking forward to seeing this when under finish!

it's slow but steady..!
I think more than being impatient, I mourn that this thread is so quiet... would have loved to chatter on about my build with others!! |

Yes!!! One thing i find though about my redwood is that it;s shade seems to be alot less "red" than other redwoods in the build section, and mine looks more cedar-brown, don't you think? |

Also, I'm planning on a Redwood build in the future, so any and all thoughts about RW, even from a different builder, is interesting to me.

I played a sinker Redwood/EIR F35 Lowden a few weeks back in a shop, and it was everything i wanted in the sound of a guitar... fantastic!
If my Avalon is able to match the crispiness and responsiveness of that lowden i tried, this would then likely be my last guitar, and I'm counting on it that my Avalon will be so!! Lowden's implementation of sinker redwood is definitely on the mark, in my opinion! Last edited by silverspear; 08-17-2018 at 08:57 AM. |

I'm sure it will. I've never played an Avalon, but I've heard they're twins to Lowden, and I don't care whether you're playing an S, F, or O model, with walnut or Braz, every Lowden is going to be crisp and responsive as can be.
Mine in a F35 in Sitka / Cocobolo, and it's more responsive than any guitar I've ever played. In fact, if it were any more responsive, I wouldn't know how to manage it.

I've got a cedar/rosewood A model that I'm currently selling, but it's a fantastic guitar. You will not be disappointed. Very responsive to the light touch in particular.
