Default looking for live mixer/interface

Hi - am currently using a mixer for live stuff and a digital interface to record. Want it all in one. One product is the Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK which looks great, except don't need 12 channels. takes up more room on my bench. anyone know of less-than-12 channel mixer/interface? 8 would be plenty.
thanks

wow...the QSC Touchmix 8 looks really interesting. Looks like it outputs tracks in WAV format so i could import that into standard audacity for post mixing? i really like audacity.

Looks like it does NOT connect to a computer for interactive DAW use?

Specs say it can read OR write tracks to a disk. Doesn't say it can do that simultaneously to lay down tracks over previously recorded. Can it lay down tracks over tracks that have been recorded?

thanks...very interesting

Records to a USB drive...an external SSD drive works well.

You can playback some channels and record to others simultaneously but not overdub, per se. See the manual on the QSC site.

The QSC can output WAV to a disc drive, but its not an interface.

The Soundcraft Notepad-12FX, although 'technically' 12 channel only has 4 mic preamps. It can send 4 channels out through USB, which is better than most of the under-$500 mixers out there, which only do 2 channel 9stereo) USB.

You want to make sure you are being aware of "Be careful what you wish for" For example many of the cheaper digital mixers can only output 2 channels of USB signal which may turn out to be more of an issue than any gain in having an all in one box . And having to record to a card then transfer to computer seems a bit cumbersome also. AND as much as we would like it to be otherwise, the reality is there really is no escaping the general rule of thumb that in manufacturing the more components you put into a box, either the price of the box goes up, or the cost of the components used goes down .
That said this mixer appears to perhaps address what you are talking about (although I am not sure about the size issue)

You may want to look at the Allen & Heath ZEDi10FX. It is USB capable and won't break the bank. Also comes with no effects to save even more $.

I use one at home and I'm perfectly satisfied with it.

Cheers and happy searching.

I needed exactly the same kind of mixer, capable of live mixing and digital recording. So I purchased Zoom Livetrak L-12 and I'm very happy with it.
The great advantage over some other digital multitrack mixers is that the Livetrak doesn't need a computer because it can record 10 channels (two of the are stereo) straight onto a SD card.

This looks like a good rig for tracking drums. So let me ask a question. Can you send all 10 channels via USB direct into a DAW and set up the DAW to show all 10 tracks simultaneously? I currently use a Behringer 4 channel interface and I'm using all 4 channels. I'd like to add more mics for toms. Will this work or should I look at a 8 channel interface instead?

The Zoom provides 4 channel output connectivity (not all 12 tracks).

Yes, this mixer can send 12 (the last two channels can be mono or stereo) independent, simultaneous tracks to a computer or even more conveniently, it can record all 12 channels onto a SD card at a show/gig/rehearsal and then transferred to your DAW for further editing and mixing.

Thank you. That's good news. And it's not terribly expensive. It would be nice to be able to play with real knobs & slider and adjust levels right at my kit instead of what I'm doing, squinting at a monitor 10 feet away using a tom as a mouse pad.
