Default Improving volume and tone of high E string?

I have a 92 Takamine EF-341C (campfire guitar), I’ve owned since 1992. Now that I have two Martin’s, and use the same strings on all three acoustics, last week while camping, I again noticed how dull the high E string sounds compared to the other five strings. The guitar has always exhibited this behavior, but last week I thought to ask this fine bunch for their thoughts on ways to possibly improve this. My first thought is to maybe file the slot at the nut just a bit to start. Beyond that I’m not sure what else can be done. Thoughts?

File the slot a fraction wider NOT deeper!the string might be ''inhibited' by the 2 slot walls gripping the string...enough to subtly mute its vol to be audible.,hence the dull tone.
a new string may be in order though.= renew all 6 strings is the better option just because etc.

Thanks for the input. I know it is not the strings, because the behavior persists after every string change.

I'm wondering if you might solve the proble, by trying a larger gauge string, say the same gauge as your B string ? Or raise the action for the E string. Thicker picks might work too.

I don't think I can raise the action on the string. Putting a B string in it's place is an interesting idea, but tuning it up to a high E could be a challenge.
