Default Repairing strap button hole

I'd usually find something on Frank Ford's site, but it seems to have been taken down. Have any of you ever removed a strap button and tried to fix the hole? I know I need to plug it and try to match the finish, but beyond that I'm not sure. Any advice? The finish on the neck is a water based lacquer which may help a bit, and there's no filler on the neck.

Thanks in advance.

It helps to start with a very dark neck. Here's a Collings neck that I repaired, with some advice and council from experienced repairmen.

Just tried Frank's website, http://frets.com/ - seems to be up as normal.

Yeah Todd's fix is pretty impressive. But as he stated you get lucky some times when the colours work in your favor.
