Question GarageBand

If you have it, how are you incorporating it into your playing/practice?

I just got a new Macbook and GarageBand came with it so I'd like some ideas on how to put it to use.

So what are YOU doing with it??

TIA

Well, I'm guessing no one is using GarageBand.

Hi DB...
Not for practicing or playing. I recommend it for recording…

You could use the metronome and built in instruments to make some practice tracks/loops to play over I suppose.

You can use it for practicing, which I have done. Learning scales is much more interesting if you have something to play around with. Record yourself doing a chord progression, say I, III, IV in the key of G. Then play it back and do the scale over that recording. You can also play that same recording back a play the same progression with your guitar capped somewhere on the neck to get a feel for how the sound goes together.

You can load any song in your Itunes account and use it to loop difficult sections for learning songs.

I can't be the ONLY person doing that am I?

It's a recording program that comes standard on most macs. You can program rhythm sections, plug an electric in to a DI box, and model any number amp and pedal combos (surf, metal, Rockabilly, etc...) You can record directly through the built in Mic on a Mac too for acoustic work if you aren't that picky about tone.

But as I said, the most valuable thing for me is the ability to load any song in your music library, and play along with it, but mostly isolate a section and have it repeat.

I use GarageBand on my iPad, with a USB snowball mic to record jam sessions. Think I'll get the iRig and start doing tracks when I free up some time too. Powerful tool indeed.
