What should I ask for?
Ah, yes. Another Christmas thread . Anyways, I'm trying to decide what I want for Christmas this year, and I'd like my gifts to be guitar related. My limit is $250, give or take 50 bucks. What I have so far: A Taylor, Taylor suede strap, xlr cord, stands, capo, slide. I don't have an acoustic amp, but I'm afraid the $500 Roland I want doesn't cost $300 . I've been looking into the Tony Rice Guitar Method DVD/Tab book set for $50, but other than that, I don't know what to ask for.
So feel free to post what you think I should put on my list! Biased or not, any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Well maybe not exactly what you need, but I thought i'd throw it out....
How bout an electric guitar? You'd have to do some digging, but you could find a some good stuff for that price. My Brian Moore i8 I found for xxx, and she's a gem. You could also get a lower level Breedlove Atlas for about xxx, or even a Baby Taylor would be well under that. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. I forgot to mention though that I also have a 2000 Fender Strat. A Baby sounds like a cool portable guitar.

. I think theres one in the Marketplace for sale, in hardshell case for 200 even. Thats a heck of a deal. I have a baby and some might underestimate the versatility of it. It has really become my main fingerpicking guitar...stick a K&K in there and you've got quite a recording axe. Hope this helps!

I highly recommend one of these...
http://www.soundseat.com/models.html ...handmade in NC, extremely comfortable, and backed by outstanding customer service. Prices from the mid-$100's to $300+. I've had mine for the past year and haven't regretted the purchase for a second. If that's not enough, J.R. Baker is a valued member of this forum (although he hasn't been around much lately) and is just an all-around great guy. I'm thrilled to be one of his satisfied customers. Here'e the one I have... |

For something out of left field, how 'bout a Boss RC-20XL looping station? The more I read about looping, and this unit, the cooler I think it would be to have one. Lay down your own real-time rhythm layer and then play some leads or whatever you want on top of that. Add a little guitar percussion if you want... and keep building as desired. Anyway they're about $295 everywhere you look and may be worth considering.....

Things like a chord, slide, cheap stand, etc., I normally buy for myself anyway. When family members ask me what I want, I generally mention the more expensive items. They go together and even if they can't get what I want outright, they help out a great deal. Sometimes less is more - less number of gifts, but more of what I'd really enjoy. Guess I'm just weird that way. Of course, I'm still hoping to order a SoundSeat one day, and that looper thingy sounds like a ball, then there's recording equipment, lessons, CDs and DVDs..... cotten |

I compile such lists each year also. Last year I got an intellitouch tuner that I really like. Didn't need it, but it's kind of nice when my praise band is warming up. Don't have to find a quiet corner or plug it in. Plus they are just kind of nerdy cool. Lots of good books on my list and fingerstyle CD's. Also this year I asked for the Taylor gear bag. They look very nice. I have also looked at the Tascam Guitar trainer or some slow down software. Band in a box was a surprise gift last year and has been very useful for practicing new songs.

You know, cotten, I was thinking the same thing about putting the Roland on layaway. I've done that so many times when it comes to big purchase items, (my Taylor, Fender, Browning shotgun) I think I'll just do it again. The looping station sounds neat. I also love the idea of a Soundseat. For years I've just been sitting on my bed playing my guitars, but my back just can't take 30 minutes or more of that position.
Thanks again for the ideas. I'll be looking into them!

I got my Roland AC60 a few weeks ago and I'm delighted with it.
If I'd had to wait a few weeks, or even months to get hold of it - the wait would have been well worthwhile. All the things that have been suggested to you would be very useful, and well worth having, but the amp would be the one to have really . Now I've got one though, I'm not sure what to ask for for Christmas. Ah yes -one of those nice little Acoustic Magicstomps will do just nicely. |

1. Peterson Strobo-Stomp
2. L.R. Baggs P.A.D.I. 3. Guitar Center gift certificate for accessories, i.e. strings, etc. Personally, I'd be happy with any of these...AND I'm almost sure of getting the GC gift certificiates for Christmas...
