Default Update on Tom Doerr Solace

I guess it's time to give an update on my guitar which was went off to finishing right before Tom passed. It still irks me quite a bit to think about it. But life goes on and we have to try and put certain things in place for us all to come to a form of acceptance. So enough of that, I want to say that as I got to thinking about this guitar I contacted Jim Doerr about the status of the guitar. It has been in limbo for quite some time and I was not sure of when it might be finished. Brian Applegate had been selected to put the finishing touches on the guitar.

However, the more I got to thinking, I decided to ask Jim if the family would like to keep the guitar as a family heirloom. Well about a week went by and I got a call from Jim. The family wanted to keep the guitar. I then received a note in the mail with a check for my deposit from Tom's Mom and Dad. I received permission to post the note:

"Dear Ken,

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to have Tom's last guitar. That was so kind of you... you are such a blessing to us. I must say that you have made Herb's heart very happy! We miss Tom so much and to have this is a treasure!

Herb and Dee Ann"

I also received a email from Tom's wife thanking me as well... "Thank you so much for offering this guitar back to our family! As you know, these are special instruments but even more precious now. I have been trying to hold on to some of these things so that our girls have pieces of Tom's legacy with them always. "

Wow, that is a great solution to a difficult issue Ken.

Well played young man! For the family to have his last build is an amazing gift you have given them.

As usual, let me second Tom B’sox. A very kind and sweet thing to do for The Doerr family!!! I am sure it will indeed be some Solace.

May the guitar gods smile upon you….

Paul

I'm sure the value of that last guitar for them is priceless, you did the right thing for sure, Ken. Good man!

A type of kindness that is truly beyond words. Hoping you have good pathways to your next build. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Tom was a special guy!

The best bittersweet story I've heard in a long time. Incredibly kind gesture on your part.

Not a day goes by that I don't think of Tom and my friend Andy that passed a few days later. They were a blessing to anyone who met them.

I'll always treasure the time we spent together.
