If not bound to colorful choices, I’d go straight to ebony. Black clashes with nothing—it always plays well with others—and it will show off the frets and inlay to best advantage. And then it lets the guitar body do all the artistic talking. Plus, it’s really tough right where you need toughness. There’s.02 for ya. Steve |

The winner is: Mystery Mesquite John picked up at a “ Little old wood store in Texas” long ago. He says it is super hard, and he has enough for the bridge and headstock faceplate as well. He is happy and so am I! Thanks for the input, Steve!!! We figure this is dark enough to show off the inlays, and does not confuse the color scheme… Lately I have had pretty pics from John in my inbox every morning! What a fine way to start the day! Woohoo Paul

The Myrtle I've played from Breedlove is a bit more fundamental John how are you aiming this one? Regardless it is looking spectacular and I can see the appeal to a Dread cutaway with the ergos you are looking at. |

My goals, too!
“nothing is flat or square on this box”
I will aim for that same thing in my playing… Ha ha Ha John is really going the extra mile on this one. Thank you thank you thank you I’m off to play the last one… Cheers Paul

John did this beautiful “live edge” inlay at the butt… I like it a lot. And it tickles me that the burl is from his yard! 20220211_074725.jpg Loving the grain patterns in the back bevel… 20220211_094458.jpg Nice simple sound port binding 20220211_100203.jpg Headplate from same “Mystery Mesquite” board as the fretboard. John is on a roll…. This box is almost ready to visit Tony Furgeson, aka “the Finish Wizard”. I am sure it will POP when he is done! Play on folks, and have FUN Paul

One of the true delights building for Paul is his willingness to try new things. If I get a wild hair you-know-where and want to try something “out there” he is usually game. My brother and I were discussing just the other day how a lot of artistry in building comes either as a necessary coverup of some mistake or as an attempt to work with a customer who wants something different
I appreciate ya Paul. And as Yoda said… there are others.

And vice versa!
After all the wild things I have asked John for, he still gets design ideas and bounces them off me…
Almost all the Pablo Package ergo and playability features are things John dreamed up during former builds, and then we went with on the next one. Always a fun ride with ya, John!!! Off to hear a couple former bandmates do an amped acoustic duo…. Outside! Cheers Paul
