Between 1979 and 1985, more or less, I worked on a hand made house for a fellow who had a cable cookie show and called himself "Organic John". He's 80 now and is moving to LA to be close to his kids. I visited him today and had lunch while we reminisced. Took a few pictures of the kitchen and entrance, which is still about 75% my work.

My arches:

This wall catches the morning sun:

The window frame, not the facia:

John, eating!

As I was leaving, John ran and got a gift he said I gave him for his birthday. I did not recognize or remember it, and suggested he had a faulty memory. It is an Ivory shoehorn. The third picture makes the truth apparent.

Back to the regular program.

Bruce, John’s house is like being inside one of your guitars! It’s like a guitarists Hobbit-hole! Absolutely beautiful work! Really cool that you got to visit with him today before he moves. Thanks for sharing this look into a different side of your craft with us all.

Very cool Bruce…. Thanks for sharing (I see hints of Greene and Greene in your work).

I love that wonderful house. It reminds me a bit of mine.

If I were called upon to do the “Sun” feature again it would be a LOT better. The archways are big work for me, and most have stood the test of time both physically and aesthetically.

There is a doorway in the house which is rectilinear on on e side and curvilinear on the other, a foot deeper, and is completely gouge carved to make the transition. I did that because the room on one side is all curves and arches, like most of the house, but the other side is all angular, is high contrast to the house.

Beautiful work, Bruce. I love the archways. My better half wants arches in our house.

The OM28ish is closed:

I have applied the first 1/4 of the binding, but no pics yet. Probably not tomorrow either as Linda and I are meeting Laurelyn and Josh in Oakland to eat at an allegedly authentic Native American restaurant. Who knew they had restaurants? As it happens, Josh IS one of them, and we are looking forward to it.

Without hijacking the thread, here in North Carolina I ate multiple times many years ago in a true Native American restaurant in Asheville. Unfortunately, a major flood pretty much destroyed the restaurant and its husband/wife owners (chef and hostess) decided not to reopen.

I always ordered their various options for buffalo -- wonderful eating. My sons were fond of the restraurant's rattlesnake entrees, for which I never quite worked up the curiosity to try.

Hoping you and yours enjoy this different dining experience, Bruce... and also wishing you a good Christmas as well as a happy, healthy, fulfilling, peaceful, and prosperous 2022.

P.S. I turn 74 in a few weeks, and I'm enjoying my three Sexauer guitars more than ever. Like you, with age they seem to just get better at what they do.

Happy Birthday, Chet, when it arrives. The restaurant was more contemporary than I hoped. No indigenous person going to work all day on that tiny meal, and the required Wampum was serious. I guess I was hoping to eat with my hands out of rough fired clay. A man can dream.

The current project, a fairly traditional OM28, is closed and calling for me to make it a neck. So far, so good!!!

Turns out John has part of his house available as Air BnB. Here’s the listing:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/2064128...2-2762950c27ee

This isn’t the best part of the house, but I believe that too will be available soon.

I went through the posts a bit too quickly and thought for a second that "John" was the cat and that somehow the cool cat abode was available on AirBnb!
