These are mockup pictures of a 00 being built for me by John Slobod of Circa Guitars. It will have an Italian spruce top, Macassar ebony back & sides, a Venetian cutaway, ebony bridge, fingerboard and headplate, with my own custom variation on Martin's original 1902 'torch' inlay. It's scheduled for completion around June.

This guitar doesn't yet exist; these pics are just a bit of Photoshop wizardry to help with design decisions, although these are the actual pieces of macassar ebony that will be used in the back & sides. It will look pretty much as you see it here. I'm not sure yet whether the neck will be mahogany stained to match the chocolate colors of the back, or a blonde wood to match the lighter back colors. What do you think?

Got a Ken Miller "Guitarcimer" that should be here early in 2010 and I think my Polling Drifter will make it in the cue this year and I'll have it late this year. Plus a Breedlove Baritone Prototype.

Hi Jim,

Did you post these photoshop renderings on another thread? The modified Martin inlay looks really familiar to me .

As for the neck, I would normally go for the darker color but in this case, the lighter blond color is more attractive to me with the back. Quite possibly due to the amount of light streaks in the back...but that's just my opinion.

Great looking guitar, can't wait to see how it ends up (how close to the rendering she'll be when complete).

Aloha,

Hen

Yes, Teleplucker is also having a Circa 00 built, and John had shared the photo of the front and headstock with him, so at Teleplucker's request I posted the pics again in his thread "Circa Build" which also has closeups of the original 1902 inlay and my variation on it.

jm - I'm with Hen. I'm usually a dark neck kind of guy, but the lighter neck looks very good. Maybe a shade less light so to speak than your mockup if it were me.. but either look spectacular.. congrats!!

Hi Jim,

I like the dark neck. Wouldn't it be awesome to be able to play both my 00 and yours in one sitting. Or better yet have Stephen Bennett or Al or Tony or .... play these guitars. Perhaps Swannanoa 2011

Well, it looks like yours should be ready soon, and if John delivers mine in June, how about Swannanoa 2010?

I have a Batson on order that should be done in a couple months. I'm hoping by my birthday in February. Pretty exciting!

I also have a Doerr on order that should be here the end of 2010 or early 2011.

Kindly,
Danny

2010 works for me. I plan on being there. John told me last week that my guitar was just about ready to be finished (sunburst). That should take about 5-6 weeks.

I really enjoy your photos, your photoshop skills are pretty amazing.

Congrats on your upcoming 00 build by John Slobod!
To make it a true winner, go with the blond. They have more fun!
Seriously, it's the better visual match for that killer back.
