Looks great - is there a personal meaning for the sunrise on the 12th fret?

The sunrise has always been my thing. I'm a morning person, born on the longest day of the year and when I lived in Greenwich Village (NYC) I even had a sunrise tattoo done on my right shoulder.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I'm sure looking forward to taking this baby out on the road.

Hi Toby...

Nice looking guitar. Love a well built dread...

Perhaps you should click the little red triangle up in the right hand corner of the post, and ask a mod to transfer this thread to the "Custom Shop" section where we track new builds.

There are some really interesting and interested people who frequent that place.

Hi Toby...

I'm just a curious guy. My main guitar for fingerstyle for the past 20 years has been my Dreadnaught. It is really a general purpose instrument which strums, and finger styles, equally well.

Having never met him, nor heard the name till this thread, how do you class Dennis MacPherson's guitar voicing? Is he a specialist with certain sizes more than others? And what purpose are you targeting the Dreadnaught for? Is it intended to be a general purpose instrument, just something you love the idea of, an adventurous project, or are there other plans in mind?

I'm always curious because Dreadnaughts are so often tossed in the Bluegrass flatpicking, Country-fied camp, and I'm certainly miles from that.

Love the pics so far, and look forward to following the thread.

Hi Larry,

Dennis has been building and repairing all types of guitars, both acoustic and electric for probably close to 40 years. He builds everything from parlor to jumbo acoustic and his electrics come with his own hand wired pickups.

If first found out about him when I moved to New Jersey 6 years ago. One of my students at that time brought over a guitar that Dennis had just finished and it was one of the best instruments I've ever played... right up there with the finest boutique makers. I immediately started having Dennis take care of my 'fleet' and he's since kept every one of them road worthy.

Soon after I had him build a 12 fret, 00 model with a cedar top and mahogany back and sides. He named it the 'Toby Walker' model... which sure surprised me. It was the one I used on my first Homespun instructional video.

Here's a page on my website of that guitar with all the details and pics:

http://www.littletobywalker.com/toby...re-guitar.html

My purpose for having him build me a dread is for bluegrass and other related old time music. However, I'm sure with the rosewood back and sides of this new one I'll be doing a fair share of other things with it as well.
