The current label has been my standard item since I started making violins 15 years ago. It is a familiar format in that world. I use the highest quality fabric based paper I know of, use "Brazil" ink (sounds better than "India" ink), seal the label with shellac, and glue it in with HHG.

While it is true that I have been building for 40 years, it is also a true that I have been building for 50 years.

Kidding about the Brazil ink.

Here is a shot of the contrasting Amazon Rosewood binding/backstrip with Maple purflings framing a beautifully figured Australian Blackwood back. Even pre-varnish you can see the visual potential in this back set.

Very beautiful!

Is it my eyes or is the lower bout slightly asymmetrical?

Very pleasing shape either way...

If it is, it's not on purpose. It is entirely possible as I did not use molds as many do, and instead worked to a line drawn on the top. Or, to be more culpable, of course it is to some degree asymmetrical, but your eyes are better than mine as I haven't seen it yet. No need to discuss psychological issues here . . .

Most every hand made guitar will have some asymmetry, I'm glad Bruce cleared that up else wise I would dropped what I was doing and ran up there to make sure "they" didn't replace him with a robot

Some very pretty Maple purfling miters frame the contrasting Amazon Rosewood end graft and bindings.

Nemoman, I think you are right. I would never have noticed on my own. That is kinda cool, ever so much out of kilter. Now Bruce will probably measure it now and then inform me that its not just your eyes, it's both of our eyes. He missed his chance to tell us the reason why he did it that way, how the occillatory patterns on the circumference required that exact change to balance the sound when heading into the mid register.. or some such thing that mere mortals cannot ever comprehend.

That is going to be a killer-looking back when done!

I will be curious what you find. To me it seems like it might be an optical illusion but no matter really as it is a stunning guitar. I so look forward to hearing what it offers when it is further dressed up in strings.

Best,
Jayne

Default off kilter

That well could be an illusion resulting from camera angle. I have seen that often enough, often so glaring that even I cannot miss it.

Bruce has roughed out a traditional dovetail joint into a one-piece Honduran Mahogany neck blank (top). He has also laminated front and back head plate veneers to the roughed out headstock made from Amazon Rosewood/Maple/ Ebony to match the bindings and purflings.

The Amazon Rosewood veneer is nicely quartersawn.

I have made a few guitars without molds, gluing the sides to the top I take care that the center line is true, if the one bout is not a mirror of the other that is the way the guitar wanted to be. Can't speak for Bruce though.
