I think the guitar looks great without the pick guard. I have an OM with a beautiful bear claw top, so I put a thin, clear guard on it. Works great and lets all the beautiful wood show.
I may do something like this. A Taylor reusable clear pickguard. I would hate to get sticky glue on it again.

So are you going to post a “Show and Tell” of you playing “Rocky Top”?
I can play it and know the words to the whole song. I sing it without the "Wooo"!

I have a clear, magnetic (static) pickguard I got from Artisan many years ago. It works like a charm and I think they're available lots of places. Just be sure you don't leave it on when it's not in use.

Cool Other mods

Quick question. Any other mods you done to your 224ce-k? For example, have you decided to change out the tusq nut and saddle for a real bone? And if so how does the sound differ?

After reading some posts on here lately I had decided to remove the pickguard from my Taylor 224ce-k. It was a shame to have that black pick guard covering up the beauty of the Koa top. Here are the before and after pics. The pic with the pickguard was taken a few months back in different lighting so that is why it looks like a different color. I decided to use the hair dryer against the judgement of others on the board. I had intended on using naphtha after just using the hair dryer to get a start on a corner. But the pickguard started pealing off so easily that I just went with the hair dryer. It was a pretty quick process. The worst part was getting the glue off that was still sticking to the gloss finish. I did use the naphtha for that but it was still difficult. But in the end I am very happy with the way it looks and yes removing the pickguard was an easy and simple process. It is just scary when you go altering your instruments yourself. Did I make the right decision?

Your guitar now looks even more wonderful and it was a good decision--Enjoy!

I realize that this is an old thread but I wasn't sure if the OP had figured out how to flip pictures. I have a Mac so my method may not work for for PCs. I "Save to Downloads" , flip the pictures to proper position, and then choose (Manage Attachments) the pictures from "Recents". Easy peesy....

Beautiful guitar, glad the removal went so well. I like the blow dryer method also.

No I have done no other mods to it other than removing the pick guard. I have a Taylor tech whom I have had install a bone nut and saddle in one of my other Taylors. I am pretty happy with the way this one sounds so I didn't want to change that.

I am with you on removing the pick guard. I have removed 2 of them recently using a blow dryer with great success. It doesn't take long at all to get a corner started.

I have noticeable tan lines on my spruce top though, but I don't care. If it doesn't even out over time I can always add a pick guard if I felt it necessary.

I am from the camp that thinks it opens up the guitar slightly taking it off. I can notice a difference when lightly laying my hand on the same spot after strumming a chord.

I've used these on my 614ce. Works like a charm. Easy on/Easy off!
Your guitar looks stellar. Congrats.

I peeled the pickguard of my new 314 in about 30 seconds very easily last month. It was a big improvement.

Default Tone?

Notice any tone differences in tone after removing the pick guard?
Btw easy way to get the glue off after removing the pick guard is by using the remaining glue on the removed pick guard and tapping on remaining glue on the body to easily take the glue off.
