Nice job Barry! Well played and good tone!

Ed's stuff is much harder to play than it sounds a lot of times. Ed doesn't do the pyrotechnic guitar technique stuff like TE or Andy McKee and all the new young guns. His technique is all underneath the song, in support of.

Ed plays a lot...in his own way...like jazz pianist Bill Evans.

Ed is all about dynamic control of meter, and tone, and timbre, and letting notes...and the song breathe with life and feeling. And THAT stuff is really hard to master because it is all on the players ability to be sensitive and emotive and express and translate that into the song, not just blast away on the guitar at 140 BPM and cram as many notes and technical tricks in each measure as can be done.

Ed's style also leaves the guitar player naked out there and leaves no "cover" for mistakes. You blow a note and everyone is going to hear it big time.

Try playing his version of "Wild Mountain Thyme" {;-)

I agree 100% and you can learn a lot taking on Ed’s style of playing. Alex DeGrassi’s style can be a similar challenge, his fingerstyle technique book is very good to have in your learning kit.

Thanks Duff!

I started working on Wild Mountain Thyme the other night. That tune and his Water is Wide arrangement are keeping me busy (and my fingers sore).
