Happy birthday Jerry! He would have been 80 today had he lived on.

Days between....

I do Ripple, Brown Eyed Women and Whiskey in the Jar. Feebly attempt Shady Grove but my flatpicking skills are not.

Started the journey in May '73, favorite live experience was a JGB show in Denver '79 or '80. The Dead was always about Jerry to me so have had very little interest in anything after Jerry's passing.

However.

This one from a few days ago did spark a bit of interest. String Cheese with Billy Strings sitting in at Red Rocks ...

Glad to see all of the Dead fans here on AGF. I have been going through the covers in that other thread. Good stuff.

A few other songs that I like to play are Bertha, Ramble on Rose, and Tennessee Jed.

Excellent Shakedown cover above. String Cheese and Billy Strings are a great combination.

I'm sure someone has mentioned 'Friend of the Devil' by now but one I've been playing around with is 'Dire Wolf'. Interesting lyrics and a typical Garcia type chord progression that is really cool.

My faves to play are Deal and Althea.

My wife loves Ripple and seems to request it every time the grandkids are around (even though she is not really into the band).

Went to a lot of their shows in the late 70's. Also saw Jerry's band a few times. Not really into the current versions all that much (some of the tempos are kind of slow for my taste) but I did see them with Mayer a few years back and enjoyed it.

They are in my top 3 favorite rock acts

Need to add a couple of these suggestions to my list, thanks y'all.

The Dead were definitely a gateway drug to acoustic music for me. American Beauty and Workingman's Dead, in particular.

Saw them live in '89, just the one time.

The Dead remind me so much of my high school days(early 90's), we listened to them all the time. I am just getting started on my solo acoustic gigging journey, I play I know you Rider, working on Franklin's Tower and Touch of Grey.
