A follow-up from the OP.....The Angel worked and sounded fine on a couple
of gigs when I used it, but decided to re-test some other preamp options
with the M-XT to make the process a little more convenient.

I found the Red-Eye Twin to be a great match with the M-XT. I used the
combo at an outdoor gig a couple of days ago and it worked out fine.
And I need the boost switch anyhow.

Thanks for the follow-up meb, I'll have to keep an eye on this as an option, since I have MX-Ts in two of my gig guitars.

Just the red eye preamp alone made the Mxt acceptable? The Mxt in my Martin pretty much sounds like the stereo typical fizzy, quacky piezo sound we all hate.

JackB1, I agree with your description of the M-XT; that is why I used the Angel for a
couple of Gigs. I used my D10E/MX-T with the Red-eye at an outdoor gig last Friday and it sounded fine.
My goal is to make the MX-T ok in certain situations....not to replace my Goodalls with Sunrise pickups.
The combo did ok, and I even got nice comments about the sound (/Mackie Onyx8/K8.2).
I threw it out there as an alternative to gutting a nice playing Martin and
starting over.
The Red-eyes have a very warm sound and are probably a total impedance mis-match which may help the MX-T as per your description. :-)

It may be worth a try if you are committed to the Road Series Martins.
my D10e plays nicely and sounds great unplugged. I use it as a 'vacation travel' guitar and tertiary gig guitar.

Good luck.

I hear ya, but for the same money I can just put an Anthem SL in the Martin and it will sound great.
