The Unbelievable World of Craigslist
I thought I had heard every story until I looked at this today...
Short story - 1) Guy posts his roommate's guitar for sale saying it has "ESP" and a Ouija design on it.... for $50. 2) Someone buys it 3) Dumb&&s realizes he messed up and asks for the guitar back I mean... how true can this be? The guy just by google'ing "ESP Ouija" could see the guitar retails for over $6,000.... Check it out in the music instruments for Houston, there's a lot of people giving their opinions as well hehe...

Isn't selling someone else's guitar equivalent to stealing?

I listed something worth about $400 and I listed it not knowing it was worth that much at $50. I got about 20+ phone calls and finally one of the last people who calls was honest enough to tell me it was worth a lot more and I should check ebay before I sell it. With the amount of calls I got within the first day I figured I must have listed it wrong. It was a 60's 2X15 Fender Speaker cabinet really beat up but the JBL speakers ended up being very valuable.
I was amazed that it literally took over 20 people before one honest person called!! I ended up selling the item for $350 on ebay. I bought the item at a Garage sale for $10 by the way. I have another fun craigslist story in my blogs on my myspace music page in my signature. See the Gibson Explorer blog. Last edited by SuperB23; 04-14-2009 at 01:08 PM. |

wouldn't you feel guilty buying a guitar like that??
1. you may be ripping someone off that doesn't know any better. 2. you may be buying a stolen guitar..!

About a year ago there was a guy who listed his recently deceased father-in-law's dead-mint 1956 Fender Telecaster for $400 on Craigslist. He had pictures of the guitar with the original tweed case, hang tags, and the original bill of sale from the fall of '56.
I emailed him and told him DO NOT SELL THAT GUITAR FOR $400!!!!! I gave him a heads up about the collector's value and referred him to a couple of resources where he could find out the true value of the guitar. I also left him my phone # and he called me to thank me and we chatted for awhile. He told me that he received over 70 emails in less than 12 hours and that I was one of only two people who told him that his father-in-law's guitar was worth a small fortune and not to sell it on Craigslist. Several people even offered him anywhere from $500 to $1,000 for the guitar, so he had a suspicion that it was worth quite a bit more. Imagine though... only two honest people out of the 70+ responses he got. The rest had no conscience whatsoever in trying to score the steal of a lifetime after his wife's father died and left this family treasure. I'd like to think that the majority of people are good and honest. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be very many of them on Craigslist.
