Question Missing padded neck support in 2017 Taylor 114e gigbag?

Hi, I just bought a new Taylor 114e walnut earlier this month (Oct 2017) from Sweden (Stockholm), from a local brick 'n mortar music store. The Taylor gigbag that came with the guitar does not have the padding under the neck for support - the interior of the gigbag is just one single cavity with nothing 'extra' under the neck. Is this normal for the 114e? Or should I ask my music store for a replacement gigbag? If normal, then why do some Taylor gigbags come with the padded neck support, while some without? Kindly help to guide this newbie guitar owner

I can't speak to your guitar and gig bag, in particular, but I know that the Taylor gig bag doesn't have the neck support while the Taylor hard bag does have the neck support...

Thanks for sharing this RP. The gigbag I have received with the 114e looks like this.

According to Taylor's website:

...The guitar ships in a durable lightweight gig bag.

As the Rolling Stones so aptly put it:

You don't always get what you want...
You get what you need...

However, Ted, John or another Taylor dealer can provide the definitive word on this...

PS. Welcome to AGF and congrats on your Taylor ownership...

Hehe, well said! Thank you for the warm welcome to AGF The guitar sounds so good to my newbie ears, that I ended up overlooking the missing neck support all this while, until today, when I was trying to position a DIY case humidifier and noticed that there is no neck support in this case (gigbag) at all!
Looking forward to seeing replies from those who can shed more definitive light on this. I will check with my dealer as well, but if I am told that this is what it is, I will find it difficult to trust just the dealer's words only, without confirmation from you guys!

Welcome! A possible alternative for this would be looking online for a Taylor 214 case (they move up to hard cases for this series). Same body size, so if you could find one for a good price that might be a good upgrade if you're gigging... and it gives more space for in-case humidifiers.

FWIW I have a Taylor "hard bag" that I really like for its light weight and the modicum of protection that it provides. (I just noticed that Sweetwater is selling these for $109 with free shipping which is pretty decent compared to Taylor's $150 cost PLUS shipping.) If I traveled on airplanes or other mass transportation, I might feel differently...

My Academy guitar came with a gig back just like yours, no neck support.

It's a great bag anyway.

I have a GC sized Taylor hard case for my a12e and it's a perfect fit for when I need more protection. Certainly for the 114 would expect the GA case to fit.

I leave the guitar in the case at home but sometimes I use the gig bag for going out and about without the guitar if I know there is nothing going on with a heavily loaded car, etc..

You can buy or make a neck support for the gig bag - attach it with Velcro.

Get this case and keep your soft case for occasional use.

I have one that I replaced an old Martin thermoplastic case with.
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality case on a budget.

The soft gig bag does not have a neck support (you have same as came with my 114ce-N).
Please post back here if you find a source for a cheaper hard case alternative for this guitar!

That case is for a dreadnought - we're taking a GA size here.
