Default NOGD - 2007 Martin 000-28EC

I picked up a 2007 Martin 000-28EC (Eric Clapton) last Monday....

It has sat at a secondhand instrument/pawn shop for years possibly - I think it was there when I bought some other guitars 18 months ago! So I thought I would put everyone out of their misery and buy it - I first played one in about 1998 when it first arrived at a shop I frequent and that one was beautiful but very expensive, but one of the first small body guitars I ever saw/tried.

The shop photo for this one was pretty average and when I played it at the shop, it was covered in really thick dust and grime with strings from about...2007! I assumed I was buying a used Stage 2/3 Relic (Pre War Guitar Co term), but after a dust and a wipe and new strings plus a Humidipak in the case, it is pretty unrecognisable after only a few days! It is almost 'unplayed pristine':

Congratulations BK! I had a 1999 that I bought new. It was my first "good" acoustic. It became trade fodder when I found my 2008 000-28VS.

I am finding it hard to imagine anyone selling this guitar....previous owner either kroked or getting a divorce

Probably the love/hate Mod V neck? The guitar sounds beautiful. A tweak away from good to play....touch high.

I will play it a week or so and then get my tech to set it up nicely and put a K&K in. It often sounds like a war zone around this house, so I like to plug in, ignore, fiddle with Tonedexter etc. Acoustic only is a bit wishful.

Nice! I had one a while back and it didn't sound all that great, which was a real shame as I love everything else about it. It was one of the best playing/feeling Martin's I've ever touched. Hopefully yours sounds as good as it looks. If so, color me envious.

Thanks!

This one sounds really great but isn’t playing as well as it might - my doc will fix!

It has gone into shock - from hanging covered in dust in a second hand /pawn shop for years to BK777 plucking, polishing, re-stringing and gasp....humidifying.

I can see that I should have made more effort to buy one of these way earlier, you know, exchange some body parts. I wonder if I would have so many guitars? This is a very good fit for me.

That is a nice find, congratulations! Loving the colour on that top and sure it’ll compliment your Waterloo’s, Gibson’s, etc nicely.

I love the aged honey top on that one.

Thanks!

It just occurred to me that over the years I have been skirting around this model with various parts of it, but not all of it! Mod Vs and rosewood and mahogany OMs and 00s.

Super cool! It cleaned up really well. I am always amazed when I hear about these finds and how they remain undiscovered. Moreover, how did the folks at the shop resist the urge to play it? I imagine it would have been a great way to pass the time. Vintage dust on a guitar like this gets someone a special Dante's circle. Enjoy.

Best,

Mac

Best,

Well, I keep an eye on their website and over the years picked up a couple of Gibson acoustics that needed a bit of work and they turned out great, so I expected a bit of the same......wear, tear, cracks etc...but no, just lots of dust and grime and rusty strings. In-ex-plic-able...PLUS.

Ha, they need to get their heads off the computers and start polishing!
