X20 had a boomy room filling quality and Sable had a refined articulate quality. They each hold their own, but pricewise, the standard 20 would have me. Also, I've watched a few of your videos (really want a 30) and there was something about you that reminded me of someone and I finally figured it out... Sam Rockwell, and I can't be the first to draw comparisons.

Mountain;
I don't know what happened here. I was able to tune in with no problem--but now, in going back and trying again, I find the problem you mention. Go figure???????????? |

This video and the one you did comparing your Martin and the X30 have been super helpful in understanding the sonic qualities for carbon fiber guitars! I would still love to try an Emerald out in person if I ever decided to take the plunge though.
I must admit I initially thought the Sable looked better to me than the Emerald but the curves of the X20 are growing on me. Not to mention, I've realized how important playing comfort is and I think the X20 has that in spades. |

Thanks for doing this informative video! Both guitars sound wonderful but given all the playing styles you did, I prefer Emerald's tone. The Emerald sounds richer while the Sable sounds more upfront. I also hear the Emerald as sounding a bit tubby in its bass register and this may have something to do with its soundhole placement even with the microphone's out front orientation to the guitar. I also hear this "tubbiness" with my own Emerald X20 Transparent Green from its soundhole to my ears when playing it. I also like the comfortable shaping of the Emerald over the Sable.

I thought the X-20 sounded better with the pick and the Sable was better played finger style. Thanks for the video!

I thought the Sable had a fuller, mellower, more rounder tone while the X-20 had a brighter and more articulate tone. For fingerstyle, perhaps the X-20 is better.
Thanks for doing this, well done!

I appreciate all the work and planning that went into this. Very well done. As someone considering a CF guitar, I found this very informative and helpful. Great job!

Thanks guys! I'm glad it's got something to offer.
My X20 review is a suuuuuuuuper deep dive... should be ready in a week or so.

Alex, am I mistaken in thinking that you previously owned an earlier model of the X20?

Nope, that's correct; I couldn't decide between the X20 and X30 so I got one of each in padauk. Preferred the X30 so flipped the X20. But the bulk of the X30 has slowed me down from playing it around the house so I decided to get back into one.
