Tom Sands MMD - #8 quilted sapele and sitka spruce *** SOLD ***
Tom Sands MMD - #8 quilted sapele and sitka spruce with signature copper trim *** PRICE DROP ***
This guitar was made for me by Tom Sands (completed in mid-2017) whilst he was training with (and therefore the build was overseen by) Ervin Somogyi, arguably the greatest living guitar builder. Since leaving Somogyi’s workshop Tom has become one of the most highly regarded modern guitar builders in his own right, as did those who apprenticed with Somogyi before him - Jason Kostal, Julian Gaffney, Leo Buendia, Michi Matsuda, Ray Kraut etc. This guitar is built using the Somogyi “studio” mould - essentially a Modified Dreadnaught pattern but with the dimensions reduced by 4% to make it a slightly more manageable in size. - 1 3/4 nut width - 2 1/4 string spacing at the bridge - 14 frets to body - one piece mahogany neck - cutaway - ebony bindings with simple BWB purfling - no pickup installed - no strap buttons - black anodised Gotoh 510 tuners with ebony buttons The guitar has a beautiful sweet tone with incredible volume, projection and sustain and is a work of art to look at. The construction of the instrument is faultless inside and out which really needs to be seen to be believed. The back and sides are made from some of the most beautiful spell I've seen and the top is lovely even and straight-grained sitka. The guitar is in “almost” faultless condition - there is one tiny ding under the B string from a pick grrr but it’s only 0.2mm across there is no chance whatsoever of capturing this on a camera. If you visit Tom’s website at www.tomsandsguitars.com you can see information about him and his various builds including this one. Here’s a video of the insanely talented Will McNicol playing this instrument - https://vimeo.com/243538591 and if you look on youtube you can find some videos of the not so insanely talented me playing it too! The guitar comes in a custom fitted Coffee carbon fibre case with a black interior and this too is in perfect condition. SOLD
