General Looping
Happy New Year everyone,
I am in the market for a guitar. I've been looping about half of my set now, and have finally decided to tune down my setlist into a full looping set. I just wanted everyones opinion on guitars. Im looking at Godin and the Taylor T5. I wanted to get one with a variety of specs. I am using a 114ce now, but I want to expand my capability into a decent sounding electric. Ive thought of playing my SG, but do not want to haul around 2 guitars. Anyways, thoughts and opinions are appreciated! Thanks! |

Are you looking for an electric guitar or an electric-acoustic?

Anything that will give me a solid acoustic sound for country and a good electric tone if that helps

I think the trick is to split the signal to two distinct amp channels (or better yet, two distinct amps), but the judicious use of floor pedals can also be effective. |

You are a brave (or foolish) person to only bring one guitar for a gig! I'm always afraid of a string breaking or something happening, and have at least 1 other guitar with me.

Most venues I play are smaller, and wouldn’t mind if I took a min to change it out. Taking more than 1 is an option I’ve considered, but I try to take as few things as I can! It’s just one less trip I have to make to the car! |

The complete guitar solution in a box
If you like your current instruments, then I'll suggest installing a Roland GK pickup on one of your guitars. Alternatively you may want to audition one of the many Godin...
...or similar guitars with synth access and plug into one of these: Feel free to leave your amp, speakers, effects AND looper home. The above unit does it all!

I own a T5, I highly recommend those, you can find used "Classic" models for around 1200.

I played a couple of T5’s at a recent Taylor Road Show and was amazed at how easily they play. Pretty important factor when performing. The T5 had amazing flexibility in tone including surprisingly good acoustic tone.
At a local establishment a very accomplished guitar player uses his Godin and told me it has become hid favorite guitar for most of his gigs. I’ve not played the Godin but know the Taylor would do the job for me. |

Another vote for the T5.
Also agree with running it into an A/B splitter- one channel for acoustic and one for electric. You can also change up the string gauges- I've found light ones make the guitar "feel" more like an electric and heavier ones make it "feel" more like an acoustic --so I've adjusted my playing style accordingly.
