Martin J-40, 27 years, intended to be a lifer but sold three years ago
Taylor 414ce, 18 years, just sold Rainsong WS-1000, 18 years, still here and unlikely to leave Silvertone from 1968, 51 years and I still have it. It was my first guitar and a gift from dad at Christmas, and has far more sentimental than monetary value. There have been others who stayed for 8-10 years as I gradually traded up and learned more about what was best for me in the long term. |

My first guitar, a Silvertone Classical from 1970, still have it:
That would make it 49 years old. My first good guitar, a Kalamazoo-built '74 Gibson Small Script Les Paul Standard I bought used in 1977 and still have. Pic is from 1978: It's a '50s revival band. Note lipstick on cheek. And today: 45 years old Bob

The guitar that I had the longest was the 1972 Yamaha FG140? 160? - one of those. I traded it in towards my Martin M-38 that I purchased in 1992. If I would have known anything about a good set-up back then, I probably would have kept the Yamaha and it would be the longest I had owned a guitar at 47 years. I kept the Martin M-38 until I sold it in 2003 to help pay for my first custom Wingert. While I was enduring the almost 2-year wait, I bought a used Wingert 00 online in 2003. So of my current guitars:
The 2001 Wingert 00 is the guitar that I have had the longest at 16 years. It's a keeper and isn't going anywhere. As are my other 3 listed here. Wingert E - 15 years Alvarez parlor - 4 years Kramer Prairie Grass - 3 months Best, Jayne |

The oldest guitar I own is my very first guitar that I bought in April of 1980 39 years ago it's a Hohner HG-920 all aged wood Arbor Series guitar.
I still own it and play it, I was so taken by the quality of the guitar that I made it a quest to find and collect the whole series and that took a very long time to complete.

I have a 1967 Gibson ES335 that I bought in 1978, so that's 41 years which is by far the longest I've owned a guitar. Acoustically, I had a 1964 Gibson J-50 for about 18 years. As far as current acoustics, my Martin HD-28 bought new in 2014 is currently the longest owned.

I purchased my all koa Martin D-25k in 1983. It has traveled the world and been played at gigs since those days. It's pretty beat up, but sounds and plays beautifully. I'll never sell it.

Mmm, seems to be something about 20 years for me.
my first "keeper" was a '73 D35, which I foolishly sold to a frnd (who still plays it) in, I think, 1996 Earlier this year I sold my 21 year old Collings DS2h (still missing it). but in 1998, my wife had a 0028 built for me (here in the UK) to mark my 50th birthday, and its still hanging on the wall of my office - the one guitar that could never be sold. (It had a label inside saying who bought it and for whom).

From early '91 until later '02 I was a one guitar guy - '89 Taylor 512C with a 1 7/8 neck.
Then I found this place and everything went downhill
