Default Go Grande Replica - BUILD CANCELED - Aftermath

About four years ago, I contacted Sam Radding in hopes of having a custom Go Guitar made, only to find out firsthand that he retired. What I wanted was a custom model without a cutaway, but I had given up, thinking it wasn't meant to be...

But then just last month, this thread appeared out of nowhere. That got my thinking about a travel guitar again, with the hopes of being able to travel again soon rising and all. After much thinking and going over other options (including a Furch Little Jane), I decided to reach out to the builder of this Go replica and see if he could make one to my likings.

Here are the major specs:

- No cutaway (which will make this unique for sure)
- 13th fret to the body
- 1 23/32" nut width
- 24.8" scale
- Carpathian Spruce top
- East Indian Rosewood back/sides
- Honduran Mahogany neck
- Rocklite Sundari fretboard and bridge
- EVO Gold frets

At the end of the day, the ability to call my shots on the nut width, scale length and fret material won me over. The idea is that I no longer have to worry about adjusting to the neck dimensions that are significantly different from my other guitars, as I had to with my previous travel guitars.

Here are the pics of the tonewoods for starters.

Cool little guitar. I'm based in Scotland so decided to see where the maker was based out of pure nosiness. Turns out he lives in my neighbourhood. He's literally a 5 minute walk away! I'll be watching this with extra interest now.

Looking forward to reading your build diary. The tonewoods look lovely. Are you having a pickup installed?

I should receive my guitar next week.

Yes, the K&K Pure Mini, the same as yours.

Cool

I am a bit worried about AG123’s reply. I’ve not yet posted his guitar. What experience is he referring to ?

I should receive my guitar from this luthier next week. Unfortunately, the excitement has gone as the experience was not positive. Hopefully you will fare better than me.
What was so negative about the experience?

I would respectfully ask that any grievances on the other guitar be addressed in the other thread. I'd rather not see my thread turn into an online battle about someone else's guitar.

I'm going to judge Lindsay's work purely on what he does with this guitar.

Thanks for your understanding.

K&K installed... It's a little unusual to have a pickup installed on the bridge plate before the box is closed, but the small size of the soundhole dictates it.

The back is coming together as well.

Received a surprising email from the builder this morning, saying the build is cancelled and the deposit refunded. (The deposit is pending on PP.)

Replied asking for an explanation. Quite disappointed.

That is super disappointing. I had a Go Grande in figured walnut with an ebony FB. Selling that one is one of the few real regrets I have in my checkered guitar-trading history.
