There are certainly others here who can chime in, but the N2 neck is only one of many recent changes.

The RainSongs of today are tonally a whole different creation. I think RainSong developed and patented projection tuned layering in the late 90s, which helps with the braceless, classic RainSong tone. They also have developed within the last 5 years or so (I could be wrong about that) their "unidirectional tops". They also began creating their hybrid bodied guitars, a mix of carbon and glass fibers to make their products more economically accessible and, according to RainSong, offers guitars with a more mellow tone. A 12 fret OM option was introduced in 2011 and a parlor sized instrument to shortly follow- I own one of the OM guitars called the Shorty and love it. Here are a couple articles that might be worthwhile to read:

I would love to learn more about the pioneering company we have grown to respect and love if others have insight.

I have an H model as well, an OM, but not a Shorty. Love the guitar. I have no idea what is different than older models, but it is an excellent guitar.
