NGD! This one had my name written on it!

Actually, my name is in fact written in it: this is the Kinnaird guitar that was built with design choices submitted by AGF members, and my name (along with 30 or so others) is actually penciled under the soundboard.

There are a couple of long threads with pictures of the the build and many comments about the choices - it was great fun to do at the time and is still a fun read, of you have the time. For more pictures and some sound clips in a smaller package, check here -

Here's a couple more pics of the Red Gum back - it really is beautiful wood. The first pic is a bit out of focus but the figure and color show well.

The next shot shows this guitar (on the left) with two other Kinnairds - all with gorgeous backs, all very different.

Very nice. I've never had the opportunity to play any guitars with red gum back and sides, so I'm curious: how would you categorize the sound that those back and side woods contribute?

Wade, I need to play it a lot more, obviously, before I can really speak to that question, but my first impression is that it's a bit more toward the rosewood end of the spectrum than mahogany or maple. I think it's a dense and fairly heavy wood, and suspect that it may resemble ebony more than rosewood, but I don't have much experience with ebony. I have mostly owned mahogany guitars and don't have much experience with other tonewoods, period. I'll re-address this question when I have played it more.

That sounds really great, the kind of sound that makes you want to stop and let each note die out before you go to the next.

Question: on the middle guitar, it that a Primavera back?

One, this has to be one of the coolest ways to design a custom ever.

Thanks, guys! By the way, it's Steve Kinnaird playing on the sound clips, not me. I just picked up the guitar today (8 hour drive!), and I expect it will be a couple of years before I can play it that well - if I take some lessons!

Bard, that is primavera on that center guitar, one of the prettiest sets you will ever see, and the guitar is wonderful sounding. If it's not available on the AGF Marketplace, people should inquire about it - it's a constant temptation for me (and I'm rather like Mae West in that regard).
