Default Professional service of transcribing fingerstyle tune to tab

Hi i'm sure plenty would be keen to find out if such service is provided to transcribe fingerstyle tunes to tab?

It's inspiring to watch great fingerstyle playing on video and then no tab is available?
Hoping to save the time to transcribe myself albeit inaccurately.

I've done it for Staffan Svahn.

Have you tried contacting the writer of the tune?

What tune did you have in mind?

I will tentatively offer my services here. I've transcribed probably 100s of fingerstyle pieces over the years (decades) - mostly for my own use, sometimes for lessons.

I've not charged for it so far (unless you count fees for lessons which include the transcriptions), but I'm happy to discuss terms if anyone wants to PM me.

(I can send samples of previous efforts to show typical results.)

Hope this isn't regarded as spam...

Default Transcriptions of arrangements

fulfillingsoul,

This is a great thread idea.

I so often see a nice youtube piece that I would love to learn, only to get the response, “no transcription.”

I know I am glad to reimburse someone for their time.

I think JonPR’s offer is very gracious!

There are 2 songs I have wanted to play for years, but there are just no written solo guitar arrangements to be found.

JonPR, I will send you a pm.

Perhaps there are some things that you would actually enjoy playing too.

Thanks so much for your response here!

The arrangement of "When I fall in love" by Michael Fix on Youtube motivated me to start this forum thread.
He has replied - No tab.

I have also sent a PM to JonPR.

**** - thanks! (Just received 3 so far apart from yours, so I need to delete some old stuff..)

Thanks all, btw, I'll get on each in turn, let you know (a) if I think I can do it, and (b) how much I'll want to charge (which will depend on amount of detail). And I said, I'll let you each see samples first, so you know what you'll be getting.
(I have no website so this all has to be done via email...)

What songs? I ask only because I actually enjoy transcribing - it's a great way to pass the time during my son's swim meets.

FWIW - I use the following apps (one on my iPhone and one on my iPad) to transcribe:

Amazing slow downer (iPhone)
Progression for iPad

Progression is incredible! Even has a fretboard on it to aid in transcribing.

Default Transcriptions

Hi Johnny D!

We met at Ted’s around Thanksgiving.

I think Jon is going to be very popular.

I sent 3 choices to him so maybe we can lighten his load.

Are you willing to take a shot at this beautiful piece by Baden Powell?
It’s called “Poem on the Eyes of Lovers.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWl8fVNMKvU

Please let me know.

Thanks so much!

Hey Mike, how's the Emerald X7 working out?

Not sure I'm up for transcribing this one - not a style I'm dying to play, and I'm a little depressed right now since I can't play fingerstyle (dealing with some finger pain issues). Good news is it sounds very transcribable and the fretting positions are reasonably clear from the video.

I've been working with a recording engineer who has been exploring the technological wonders of the "Melodyne" program (a plug-in for Presonus' Studio One software).

It's actually kind of amazing, but this program identifies all the key notes played on a track (even simultaneously), shows the wave form, the key, and yes, provides a score. Of course, it has other critical mixing applications, but that's a very nice bonus feature. I'd have to check, but it seems you could set up the full pro-version of this software, including the Melodyne plug-in for roughly $600 or so.

I haven't looked, but would be curious to know about similar approaches to producing tablature...that would seem to require "human intelligence"....a notion I find a little comforting

Hey Johnny,

I am really happy with the X7.

Thanks for your offer.

I saw your thread about the pain. I would definitely recommend seeing a doctor. An exam and an x-ray will remove all the doubt.

In addition, I think you will start feeling less depressed the minute you make the appointment.

David Walbert is a musician and instructor who transcribes on commission. He also has a large library of arrangements. The pieces I've played are excellent, including Doobie Bros "Larry the Logger, Two Step" and Eagles "Hotel California". Not only are his arrangements extremely musical, left and right hand fingering is excellent. Since early 1980's, he has been the teacher of my guitar teacher, Richard Gilewitz. You can request a list of his arrangements here:

Default Will happily pay anyone.....

...if they can accurately transcribe to notation or TABS, the fingering that Mississippi John Hurt employs on "Casey Jones".

Every one I've looked at on the 'net is a very simple one and does not capture all the notes and fingering he is using.
