Capo at 2nd Fret Rules!
I have been recently been messing around with the capo at the 2nd fret. Is it just me, or does it sound awesome? Anyone else fond of this? Any song recommendations for this?

Many of James Taylor's songs are capoed at the second or third fret. He uses great chord voicings. Examples are: Something in the Way She Moves, Like Everyone She Knows (a great tune from New Moon Shine). These songs are in the JT Complete Series if you're a fan of his.

How about James Taylor's "You Can Close Your Eyes" and "Copperline", "Another Day."
This tuning makes simple chord voicings really sparkle, have fun!!! Michael |

capo 2
I play in a worship group and I really like the resonant quality of this capo position. If you are familiar with any Catholic standards, try "City of God". Also try Jimmy Buffett's "Come Monday" capo 2 opening in G. Willie Nelson's version of "Pancho and Lefty" is actually in D, but of course if you capo 2 you can play in C which sounds great and eliminates the barred Bmin (becomes Amin). This is one of the main reasons I am always trying capo'd arrangements of many songs... to get rid of barred chords because they don't have that open airy resonant sound that open chords do.

Its true that the "open ,airy" feel of the first position chords brings out the best tones of an instrument but, in addition, you might try some alternative positions up the neck without the bar as well. That may mean playing onlt a few strings but, wow, what a sound you can get with a little inspiration.

Elton John's "Your Song" is another one that sounds pretty capo'ed up to 2 or 3.

"Babylon" by David Gray is a good choice. As is "America" by Paul Simon.

Willie Nelson, Pancho and Lefty, now that a great song!
One of my favorites. I haven't given it a good listen for a while, but do you know how to do the intro???
