Default Marty Schwartz

There are so many generous teachers of guitar on You Tube, but I just love Marty Schwartz. He's so personable, and accessible. He's like a friend teaching you a song, and he explains it from where every note on every chord is, to how the strum goes. Check him out:

some of his videos are good.

I would suggest always listening to a song closely and checking out a couple different tutorials.

Some Youtube folks teach a lot of songs played incorrectly.

Gotta love the way Marty breaks everything down to teach you...

He and Justin Sandercoe are hard to beat as online teachers...

I assume they're friends as I've seen a few vids of them performing together, seem to be having a good time...good stuff...

I'm sure you're right about that, but I've only used Marty's beginner songs, and I assume some of them may not be exactly like the originals just because they're so simplified.

You may also want to give Jerry a look.

As a TOTAL beginner, his videos had me playing fingerstyle mixed with strumming songs in 2 months!

And he shows how to play the songs as recorded. Not the 'campfire' versions that Marty specializes in.
Marty is good for awhile.

Another vote for Jerrys Guitar bar. His videos are very good and he explains each section of a piece in a step by step fashion.

Thanks for adding that. I tend to erroneously leave out important parts in my posts as if everyone knows what I'm talking about. lol

I didn't have a preconceived idea that an F# (Emaj shape barring 2nd fret) and Bm (Am shape barring the 2nd fret) were supposed to be difficult chords.

I certainly struggled with them and still cant hit them perfect everytime, but getting better and better each day.

The point is, as a beginner, I just think/thought that if I want to play the song the right way... as it's recorded, ya' gotta learn how to play the chords! Right?

Jerry explains it all... and the ability to rewind and rewind, and rewind, and rewind is key.

Just learn each song one piece of it at a time... then pull it all together seems to work for me.

Practicing scales endlessly with no light at the end of the tunnel was my former face-to-face instructor's method.
That piqued my interest for about 2 months before I gave up.

I came back at it 2 years later with the attitude that I CAN learn songs as well, and at the same time. That's what makes it fun!

Jerry's Guitar Bar videos are 100% the reason I now practice 7 days a week, and a minimum of 3 hours a day.

He is a natural teacher.
