Default yesterday at a guitar center

Yesterday I went to the local, Murrieta CA, Guitar center and found a guitar I wanted to buy. I asked the salesman for a better price. He went to ask the mgr and came back with a no. I said well what about throwing in a gig bag, same answer. I walked out surprised and without the guitar. I thought GC always used to deal but maybe thats part of a new plan for GC to pay for the extravagances in Hollywood.

Sad. Seems like they could have made a sale with a small * amount of negotiation. Seems stupid. Sometimes all it takes is a couple packs of strings to make someone seem like they got a good deal. Shame they missed a sale. You should email corporate. I dont usually advocate getting people in trouble but I would guess the store manager (not just the on duty mgr but the actual* GM) and the corporate management would like to know they lost out on a sale (and potentially a future customer) because of this. I've emailed corporate about some grievances I had with GCs behavior and gotten mixed results.

Seems kinda presumptuous on your part. I can't think of a single retail business other than auto sales where posted prices are assumed to be negotiable. Next time I'm out to dinner, I'll see if they'll knock ten bucks off my filet mignon or throw in a free dessert. Stay tuned.

One of the realities of haggling is that you need to accept no for an answer sometimes. There's no obligation on the seller's part to accept your offer.

No it's assumed . Like car sales . Perhaps
corporate has changed. Next time you want
to put an item on consignment at GC see if
they'll negotiate the 40 % they take for
providing that service. I'll bet you'll get another
No!!. I dont go in there much.

I once paid $40,000 to a vendor, and I got a ball cap with their logo on it.

I got the story that in the past GC's salespeople could really give away the store so they had to clamp down on it. Maybe if mercy had brought something showing that others are selling that guitar for less. GC does price match.

About a month ago I got a 5-year-old Martin cs OM-18 from GC. The price was set and non-negotiable. I wanted to pay 200 less. I tried everything I could come up with, but they are not allowed to negotiate used prices. I wanted that guitar more than I wanted that $200. I paid the price and I'm so happy with that guitar that I'll never have to buy another guitar again.

I've never gotten any sticker relief from GC. The best "deal" they have is their no-questions-asked returns policy. Which ain't bad.

they know that someone else will not bargain and will pay the full price. go elsewhere. black friday/cyber monday is coming and you'll find a deal.

Best time to look for a deal is the last few days of the month when store is trying to make it's sales goal. Even better is end of quarter.

It's the same at my location. Years ago they'd walk up to you and offer to cut 10 or 20 percent off the guitar you were playing.

I've NEVER paid the asking price for a guitar at any GC and I've bought a few over the years.
You do your homework, if you find a better price, document it and GC will match it. That's how I got the J45 I wanted for $2200 instead of $2749.00.
I'll be curious to see how this thread goes. Seems so far, I'm alone in my experiences. Just lucky I guess.

I've frequently seen people talk about negotiating guitar prices or getting extras with their purchase at music stores on this forum.

There's a reason restaurants don't have sales people walking around whereas music stores do.
