really nice example. That is an early 55 model. About midway through the year they went to the large pickguard, and stopped scalloping the braces. My J45 is a late 54, so about the same vintage.

Congrats!

As noted. it looks to be a transitional model with pre-1955 features so you might check to see if the bracing is scalloped or not. Gibsons built in early-1955 tend to have features from both periods.

I owned a 1946 LG-2 for many years. Nothing wrong with the guitar but over the years I just stopped loving them.

I have been intrigued by these models since I learned that the LG2 is Chris Stapleton’s favorite. Gorgeous guitar - thanks for sharing.

You lucky dog!!! I've had serious GAS for one of those for years. Too bad I've got more GAS than money. Enjoy it, she's a beauty.

Wow, thanks for all the replies! I'm so excited to bring this baby back to Nashville with me. I think this is only the beginning of my mahogany Gibson fever

Really great info re: '55 specs. I guess it is an early '55 after all, serial and bracing check out.

Any string recommendations are welcome, I haven't been able to experiment yet!

Love it. Congratulations. Clearly much great music and fun has poured from that beauty, and now it's your turn to make it sing and send vibrations into the world.

A vintage Gibson is my dream guitar. I had one once (early 60s J45) and every guitar I've owned or played since pales in comparison.

I wish you 100 years of enjoyment with your incredible new old instrument!

I'm probably not the guy to give recommendations because I really like the Martin Retros on my rosewood b/s guitars but hated them on the LG2. That seems to go against most folks opinion. I left them on two weeks and they sounded dead the whole time. I have Elixir nano lights on right now and they are just ok sounding and kinda slippery compared against what the other two guitars are strung up with. I have a set of Ernie Ball aluminum bronze on deck waiting for their turn. I'm hoping they are the magic string.

Those are singer/writer jewels. Nothing does vintage Gibson like vintage Gibson. Accept no substitutes.

What a great guitar, congrats! If I owned a smaller body guitar, this style would be very high on my list.

Give the Ernie Ball AB's a shot. I have a couple of hours of play time on mine and these are the best I've tried so far. They really woke the guitar up. The first thing you will notice is how much louder the guitar is. It also seems much clearer. This is all opinion of course (louder is undeniable) but its worth a $7.49 gamble.
