Default NGD Marlboro Points Guitar!

Just bought it and brought it home. This is the infamous Marlboro Martin, which had nothing to do with Martin. No brand markings of any kind.I haven’t even cleaned it or changed the strings yet. It is one of those guitars that sounds better than it has a right to. Bright and loud, reminds me more of a Guild. Smells strongly of cigarette smoke, fittingly. Any way to get that out?
Also would like to make a C.F. Marlboro script decal, if anyone knows how please let me know.

Cleaned and polished it, the fretboard was VERY thirsty and took several applications of FEED N WAX. Restrung it, and it sounds great. Top is solid spruce, sides and back may be laminate but the jury is out. Fretboard and Eddie Munster bridge are rosewood. Intonation is not bad, may tweak it the tiniest bit when I dig out my tiny files. Action is low. I have it hanging in my guitar room next to my D-28, and I can see the many detail differences that make it absurd that anyone tried to claim that they were made by Martin. Still, well worth the $60 I paid for it, and will likely accompany me to Mexico this winter.

While I’ve never heard of one called a Marlboro Martin, I have seen a couple and they sound okay for a 2,000 pack guitar.

I generally call it a CF Marlboro COPD model. Whoever smoked enough to get one likely could not play it while in their iron lung. Has a nice herringbone back strip, nicer than the backstrip on my real D-28. I’ve heard solid back and sides claimed but I’m betting laminate. It does a good impression of rosewood. It sounds pretty darn good for what I paid.

See other threads on this board, but the consensus seems to be that an ozone generator is the most effective remedy.

Wow, you've got the other one. I got one of these with points and $50 around 2000. It came with a padded gig bag and I really was surprised at how good was. No brand markings, no serial number. When I first started playing out solo, I used it (sound hole pu & mic) over my Ovation AE. I still get it out once a year or so.

Too difficult to post pics on this board but search for Marlboro on Reverb and several will usually pop up. No name or markings of any kind.

The near perfect intonation surprised me. Someone must have given it some attention. I may drag a strip of emery cloth over the saddle at E6, which is the tiniest bit sharp at the octave fret, but that’s about it. This one is going on vacation with me this winter. I have nightmares about traveling internationally with one of my good guitars (though this one seems pretty good as well, you know what I mean).

I was joking about putting a CF Marlboro decal on it.

I like the idea of the CF Marlboro decal.

That's somewhat ghoulish, but also hilarious.

Congrats on the guitar though. Enjoy!

Thanks. A dryer sheet got most of the stink out. I think this one is going to Ajijic with me and my SO in January. I had an extra dread sized case so I stuck it in that and we’re good to go.

That's simple Light one end and wait for it to stop smoking.

Got one too. Like Brent, got it around 1999/2000, right before I quit smoking. Made a bone nut and saddle and it helped. Not bad for what it is. Kinda heavy though.

Hmmmm, mine weighs about the same as my real D-28, I just checked. I do have a Baggs Lyric and a JLD Bridge Doctor in the Martin though. I think you are the third on this thread who has one. Maybe I should do a short run of CF Marlboro decals, in red. The block vertical logo, as D-45s have, would be easier than script. Less potentially litigious, too😇

The D-45 style logo would be fitting. Maybe in gold though to add to the authenticity.
