A few years back, I headed to a pawn shop/second hand guitar shop to try a 60s H’Bird that landed.

It was OK but I was a bit .....disappointed. The shop had 2 more recent H’Birds and a 2005 Dove Cherry Burst.

I fingerpick bare fingers, so the H’Birds are ...too soft and...squishy?

But the cherry Dove CRIED out all over the shop! And home it came!

Someone had written on it with texta, did their DIY nut and saddle and setup....all horrible, so after a while it went to my luthier and came back with new bone nut and saddle, setup and most of the texta gone!

It now sounds great and I had intentions of moving it on, not really my L-00/OM kind of thing...but...but...it is so cheery in cherry!

Always been a “Martin guy”…and not really a dread guy, but after hearing that clip, I believe I could have a wonderful relationship with a good Gibson Hummingbird.

Ugh! Go away, GAS!!

I identify with this sentiment. I thought the Hummingbird sound was more complex/interesting. But after all I've read, I would not buy a Gibson without playing it first.

Gary, great playing as always. Especially the touch harmonics — awesome. That said, I would like to hear you play exactly what you just did on one of your Martins. The Dove sounds fine, but I think your DC-18 can do it better. My opinion.
