Default One GREAT guitar... or two Good guitars?

If you had to choose, would you prefer one "great" guitar, or two "good" guitars?

One great. You just play one at a time, and I’d rather have one I don’t want to ever put down.

Two good ones. I like variety and like having backups in case of any issues with one.

One great, I could never be satisfied with just good guitars, why bother playing at all if you cant be the best you can be?

If by great you mean it plays easier than the good ones, then I’d take the great.

Two good ones. I need a 2 guitars in case I break one and although I think I'm a good player I'm not a great player so good is good enough.

I have several really good guitars made of different tone woods and I am happy with them. The idea of trading them in for one great guitar does not appeal to me. I like a variety. I find I sonically tire from playing one guitar all the time - call it sonic fatigue. I will play more often because I can play tonally different instruments. Plus, they each have a different feel to them and generate a different playing style.

I think we had this conversation a while back. My perspective on backups comes from my time in the Army. The rule - two is one and one is none. If you have one of anything and it goes down for any reason, you have nothing.

If we’re talking acoustics, which I assume we are here, I’ll take the two best ones I can afford, but I love having one mahogany guitar and one rosewood - I wouldn’t want to have just one or the other even if it was notably better than the two I have. I have two I consider great ones at the moment, but I spent a total of about $5500 for the two of them and for some folks, that’s just two good guitars. If I found two I liked better and could still afford, I’d be open to them, but I’ve had these for three and two years and am extremely happy with them. I’ve tried other, more expensive ones that others might consider to be significantly better, but I didn’t like them as much, let alone MORE, so I’m sitting tight for now with my two wooden acoustics, whether anyone else considers them to be great or good or merely OK. I also have a carbon fiber guitar but I may let that go if the climate where we recently moved makes the care of my wooden ones as easy as it seems to be. It’s a fantastic guitar, but I only consider it essential if the humidity conditions make it so, and I’m thinking that may not be the case here. Time will tell.

I have a lot of guitars. I don't NEED them. But I do like having them. I suppose I could have just one great expensive guitar, and when I stop playing out, I may shift in that direction. It's a process!

I have 6 acoustics, so of course my answer would be to have 2 good acoustics. I'm very fortunate to be able to have multiple acoustics and love having the choice,,, allot of times it's a mood thing where I look at the guitars and 1 will just speaks out to me. I like that

One great, but I do need a backup for gigs. I could have just my D-40E and a Yamaha FG800 and toss a pickup in it for backup purposes.
