Default Classical guitar to MIDI

Hi. Other than a 2 thousand dollar guitar by Godin, is there a way to create MIDI input for recording?

Thanks for any tips.

Do you have any experience with guitar-to-midi? If not, you might want to try getting that before making any investments. I have a Boss SY-1000 but I despise using guitar-to-midi.

I think Godin is the simplest option you will find. Possibly the cheapest too.

Check out Jam Origin https://www.jamorigin.com/. I've not used it myself but have heard great things about it - it's a software only solution for guitar to MIDI. I think there's a free trial so you can check it out and see if it works for you.

Cheers,
David

The demo is impressive and at $0 for a trial it's a lot easier to try than the hardware options.

Wow, thanks. This Jam Origin software is quite amazing. Can I ask, if I record to Cubase, would I be able to manipulate the data just like any other midi sample/patch...whatever its called? I'm totally new to this...thanks again for the tips!

If not its name would be very misleading.

Try it and let us know.

Many DAWs have an Audio to Midi conversion option ..
Does your version of Cubase have that feature , so you could just record the guitar straight in to an audio track ,. then convert the audio to midi then play around with the midi ?

The audio to midi conversion from guitars in Mixcraft is amazing. Way better algorithm than Abletons. Acoustic strumming converts to piano very naturally. As well, there's Fishman's Triple Play in two flavors. Works with acoustics as well. I have the ios version on my strat. I haven't had as much luck with Midiguitar 2, in either flavor of desktop or ios. Maybe you've got to buy it before it works well. The triple play is great for lines but less capable with chords, and the chords conversion on mixcraft is, like I said, amazing.

Yes. Once converted to MIDI it's exactly like any other MIDI data you've used.

The Jam Origin software does a great job in tracking single notes AND chords - in realtime. As a music education major (decades ago), I had to pass all of my keyboard and piano courses. I’ve never considered myself as one who “plays” the piano/keyboard; rather, I joke that I fight with it!

Guitar synthesis, and later, MIDI guitar unlocked a lot of those ideas for me.

My first system was the Roland GR-700/G-707. For more sounds, I connected that to a Yamaha FB-01 FM synth module. I’ve also had a GR-300 (Thanks to Robert Fripp, Andy Summers, and Pat Metheny for the inspiration) and a Casio MG-510.

Currently, I have a Godwin xtSA, but no longer have a GK-13 guitar-to-MIDI converter. I’m using the Fishman TriplePlay when I do want to track faster, more intricate MIDI parts. This system is the best tracking out of all of the hardware-based solutions I’ve tried, but I am limited to steel-stringed guitars.

In your case - playing nylon strings - you would have to find a MIDI-enabled guitar as a hardware solution.

As mentioned, the Jam Origin MIDI Guitar apps are a great solution for anyone using a computer or smartphone/tablet (I also have the app installed on my Mac, iPhone and iPad).
