This really came together nicely. Looks great! I’m impressed that you went with the French polish finish.

Thanks virob!

Does anyone have experience with using USB mics straight into a iPhone or iPad? I’m looking for a simple, inexpensive way to get sound clips of my builds, without having to bother anyone with real studio equipment.

Alright y’all, I got some glamour shots while the sun was out this afternoon here in Indianapolis. Here we go!

Let’s start with specs:
Top: Torrified Sitka Spruce
Back and sides: Indian Rosewood
Neck: Mahogany
Construction: Dovetail Neck Joint
Finish: French Polish
Bridge: Indian Rosewood
Fingerboard: Indian Rosewood
Binding: Sapele
Rosette: Indian Rosewood, Sapele, Spalted Maple
Scale: 24.9”
Nut: 1.75” (1 3/4)
String Spacing at Saddle: 2.20” (2 3/16)
Tuners: Gotoh 510 minis, Gold

Currently set up for John Pearse light gauge phosphor bronze strings, but upon purchase I will put your preferred strings on and adjust to your preferred action height.

These last two pictures show some tear out in the torrified Sitka spruce top. They have been repaired and filled, but are still visible. These imperfections are entirely cosmetic and have do not affect the structure, tone, or playability of this little gem. Obviously, this sort of thing would be unacceptable on a commissioned guitar, in which case I would scrap the soundboard and start over, but for a spec piece with sweet tone, I think it can be overlooked if you’re okay with two small cosmetic flaws. Plus I’m knocking the price down quite a bit for this reason!

Gotta say, that sitka top looks great. The torrefaction seems to add a golden glow to it.

Thanks! The color alone is worth using torrified wood. Not to mention the tone! There’s something about it being natural that makes it more attractive than a dye or stain (or even amber shellac) to mimic a vintage look. I especially like it on top of a darker wood like this rosewood. Walnut would look great too. I will be using torrified wood again in the future.

I am about halfway through another build right now but have not posted anything because I didn’t want to have two threads going at once. I think I will be starting a single thread with the rest of my builds for the year just to keep things nice and tidy.

Thanks Colins! I had been using the phrase “honied tones” to describe the color of the torrified top, but “golden glow” captures it very well.
