Maple Jumbo Comparison
Nice clip comparing the Gibson SJ-200 with the new Guild F-55 and the Taylor 618.
Lots of talking but it gets interesting at 5.57. Which do you prefer?

Thanks for sharing.
For me the J-200 wins, followed by the Taylor for spot 2. I was surprised how much I didn't care for the F-55... |

Thank you so much for bringing these videos to view.
Well I for one are super impressed by the Guild. I have always wanted a big bodied maple. While I have always loved a recorded SJ200(on so many hits of the 50's and late 60's), always felt it was not quite as big when playing live. Maple tends to need a bit of reverb to get into that Bigger than life category. Thus the new Taylor 618 caught my eye a few years ago. As the Taylor seemed more even across the frequencies than the SJ200. Still something was lacking. But now that I think there is a clear winner in the Maple jumbo line...and it name is-- Guild. Very impressed with its deep presence and clear notes. Did not think this was possible from a maple guitar. Can't wait to try one in person. Only wish they made it with 1 &3/4 nut. |
